PROCLAMATION
Columbia Heights Pride Day: September 23, 2023
WHEREAS, the LGBTQIA+ community in Columbia Heights, Minnesota, and across the
world has contributed immeasurably to the cultural and societal fabric, enriching our lives
with diversity, resilience, and creativity; and
WHEREAS, the LGBTQIA+ community has faced historical and ongoing challenges,
including prejudice, hatred, and misinformation, yet continues to stand strong and
persevere; and
WHEREAS, it is our duty as a city to ensure the protection and support of all members of
our community, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity; and
WHEREAS, as Mayor of Columbia Heights, I have diligently worked towards making our
city more inclusive by updating ordinances to include gender -neutral pronouns and by
incorporating gender -neutral facilities, such as bathrooms, in our new city hall; and
WHEREAS, we recognize the importance of celebrating and supporting our LGBTQIA+
friends, family members, and neighbors, affirming their rightful place in our community
NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved that I, Amdda Marquez Simula, Mayor of Columbia
Heights, do hereby proclaim Saturday, September 23 as "Pride Day in Columbia Heights",
County of Anoka, State of Minnesota, U.S.A.
On this particular day, I encourage all residents to join us in celebrating our LGBTQIA+
community and demonstrating our commitment to equality, acceptance, and unity.
