HomeMy WebLinkAbout2023 September Hispanic Heritage MonthCOLUM131AO HEIGHTS PROCLAMATION Hispanic Heritage Month: September 15, 2023 - October 15, 2023 WHEREAS, The first Hispanic Heritage Week was held in 1968 by President Lyndon Johnson, and 20 years later, in 1988, President Bush declared September 15th to October 15th Hispanic Heritage Month; and WHEREAS, the Hispanic and Latine community, a vital and integral part of Columbia Heights, has made significant and lasting contributions to our society, enriching our lives through art, music, cuisine, literature, science, and countless other fields; and WHEREAS, Hispanic Heritage Month offers us a remarkable opportunity to celebrate the heritage, culture, and invaluable contributions of Hispanic and Latine individuals and communities to the United States: and WHEREAS, Hispanic Heritage Month encourages us to reflect on the shared histories, challenges, and successes of our Hispanic neighbors, fostering a deeper understanding and respect for the diversity that shapes our town, NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved that I, Amdda Mdrquez Simula, Mayor of Columbia Heights, do hereby proclaim September to be Hispanic Heritage Month in the City of Columbia Heights, County of Anoka, State of Minnesota, U.S.A. Additionally, I call on all citizens to join me in honoring our Hispanic community's distinct heritage and unbending spirit and to participate in efforts that advance dialog between cultures, unity, and exchange. 4A!'da Marquez Shimla, Mayor September 11, 2023
