HomeMy WebLinkAbout2021 Police Week ProclamationCOLUMBIA HEIGHTS PnocuruATroN Police Week: May 9-15, 2O2l To recognize National Police Week 202L and to honor the service and sacrifice of those law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty while protecting our communities and safeguarding our democracy: WHEREAS, there are approximately 700,000 law enforcement officers serving in communities across the United States, including the dedicated members of the Columbia Heights Police Department; WHEREAS, since the first recorded death in t791., over 2L,000 law enforcement officers in the United States have made the ultimate sacrifice, including Curt Ramsdell of the Columbia Heights Police Department who was killed in the line of duty on July 30, L977; WHEREAS, the names of these dedicated public servants are engraved on the walls of the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C.; WHEREAS, May 15 is designated as Peace Officers Memorial Day, in honor of all fallen officers and their families; THEREFORE, BE lT RESOLVED that the Columbia Heights City Council formally designates May 9-15, 2021., as Police Week in the City of Columbia Heights, and publicly salutes the service of law enforcement officers in our community and in communities across the nation.
