HomeMy WebLinkAbout2026 July 23, Monarch Fest 2026 PROCLAMATION Monarch Festival: July 23, 2026 The Monarch butterfly is renowned for its remarkable migration, traveling thousands of miles across North America and serving as an important symbol of environmental stewardship, resilience, and interconnectedness. Monarch butterflies play a vital role in supporting healthy ecosystems through pollination and serve as an indicator of environmental health. Their annual migration reminds us of the importance of protecting natural habitats and preserving resources for future generations. Columbia Heights is a leader in the Mayor's Monarch Pledge and remains committed to protecting Monarch butterflies and other pollinators through habitat restoration, environmental education, and community engagement initiatives. The Monarch's extraordinary journey also reflects the experiences of many residents who have traveled great distances in search of opportunity, safety, and a place to call home. As one of Minnesota's most diverse communities, Columbia Heights celebrates the contributions of immigrants, refugees, and families from around the world whose cultures, traditions, and experiences enrich our city. Just as Monarch butterflies depend on welcoming habitats throughout their migration, strong communities thrive when they foster inclusion, belonging, and mutual support. Columbia Heights is proud to be a community that embraces diversity and recognizes the strength that comes from people of different backgrounds working together. The City proudly celebrates the Columbia Heights Monarch Festival on July 23, 2026, bringing residents together to celebrate conservation, community, cultural diversity, and the shared responsibility of creating a vibrant and welcoming city for all. I, Amáda Márquez Simula, Mayor of Columbia Heights, do hereby proclaim July 23, 2026 to be Monarch Butterfly Day in the City of Columbia Heights, County of Anoka, State of Minnesota ______________________________ Amáda Márquez Simula, Mayor July 13, 2026
