Participants will have a working understanding of Culture (what is and how it functions).
Participants will be introduced to the concepts of Authority and Power and how this
impacts their worldview, culture, and their job.
Participants will gain a baseline understanding of Law Enforcement & Its historical
connects to race (1600-2023) and how our communities and governmental agencies
respond.
Communication/De-escalation
This course is designed to give employees a baseline understanding of how to engage in
dialogue with different cultural groups. This course also includes De-escalation Techniques
based upon different cultural group. This includes cultural triggers, De-escalation techniques.
This is a hands-on/lecture style course includes, videos, lecture, and Role playing
Topics Covered:
D.M.C model (Dialogue, Monologue, And Complying)
Communication tends within different cultural groups
De-escalation
Verbal Judo
Objectives
Participants will be introduced to a baseline understanding Communication: Content,
Tone, pitch, modulation.
Participants will be taught the 4 C’s of communication (Contact, contrast, Context,
Content)
Participants upon completion of the course Officer will be able to spot micro-agitation
and be able to apply appropriate De-escalation protocols.
Although the instructor is a lawyer, he is serving in an education role for purposes of these
sessions, and not in a role as an attorney providing legal advice to you or the City of Columbia
Heights.
Knowledge & Experience
Imran Ali is a shareholder with Eckberg Lammers and the Senior Director of Training,
Consulting and Investigation Services. Imran has been a trial attorney in the public sector for
almost 20 years. His extensive experience is recognized both in the courtroom and the
community. Working extensively with victims of crime has provided Imran with the passion
needed to succeed in the courtroom. He has handled some of the most complex cases,
including homicide, rape, domestic violence, narcotics related and burglary cases.
In 2014, he spearheaded the East Metro Human Trafficking Taskforce – one of the first
trafficking task forces in the state of Minnesota. Imran has prosecuted national and international
sex trafficking rings, trained and presented thousands of officers and prosecutors, helped draft
legislation and testified for stiffer penalties for sex trafficking offenders.
Imran has spent much of his career engaging those employed within the criminal justice
profession. From training new judges in the State of Minnesota at the University of Minnesota
law school, to teaching law students at the Mitchell Hamline Law School, Imran enjoys engaging
individuals as they chart their career path. Through this he has had the opportunity to train many
law enforcement professionals and prosecutors nationally. As the Senior Director of Law
