BUILDING MAINTENANCE AND EQUIPMENT A. Daily cold temperatures have delayed installation of silicone caulking around the replacement window on the north side. II. TECHNOLOGY A. The Comprise pc and print management project continues. City information services staff established a server and provided remote access for the vendor. The vendor has been using the testing lab, configured to mimic the user environment, for testing and troubleshooting the software. Training of staff will begin in November. B. Tierney Brothers has completed installation of equipment to enable the Community Room to function as a backup emergency operations center (EOC). Staff will be trained in November. III. COLLECTION A. Adult print materials were selected from May and June issues of Booklist, Kirkus Reviews, and Library Journal. Juvenile print materials were selected from the May and June issues of Booklist and May, June and July issues of School Library Journal. Board books for babies, children’s books on CD and youth DVDs were ordered. B. Weeding was completed in adult fiction A-E and adult nonfiction 600-640. Weeding of juvenile nonfiction continued. IV. PROGRAMS AND VIRTUAL EVENTS A. The Library Board met in a hybrid virtual/in-person meeting on October 7. B. A virtual meditation program for adults was held on October 7. C. Poems in the Park for adults was offered on October 8 at LaBelle Park and October 29 at Huset Park. D. Story strolls for families were offered at Sullivan Park on October 13-14 and LaBelle Park on October 27-28. E. Virtual LEGO Challenge premiered on October 14. F. A mural camp for teens was held on October 15-16. G. A manga workshop for youth was offered on October 15-16. H. A Dia de los Muertos program was offered in partnership with HeightsNext on October 17. I. The Adult Book Club discussed “Magpie Murders” virtually on October 21. J. A virtual discussion of “Columbia Heights: Bootstrap Town” was held on October 21 as part of the City’s 100th Anniversary celebration. K. Two Family Discovery Saturday programs were held; October 10 was an English/Spanish puppet show and October 17 featured the Raptor Center. L. Four virtual storytimes were held via Facebook Premier on Monday mornings. M. One stroller storytime was held at LaBelle Park. N. Customized “Grab and Go” activity kits were distributed for children in birth-K, grades 1-5, and grades 6-12 groups. O. Adult “Take and Make” craft kits were available throughout the month. P. The adult ESL conversation circle met virtually on four Monday evenings and was facilitated by MetroNorth Adult Basic Education. Q. Deliveries of materials were made to At-Home patrons. R. Curbside pickup of materials was made offered upon request. V. STAFF A. I met with Page Sam Rinne for his annual performance evaluation. B. I met with Clerk Typist II Nick Olberding for his annual performance evaluation. C. Adult Services Librarian Cortni O’Brien received a “Friends of the League” award from the League of Women Voters Anoka, Blaine, Coon Rapids. D. Youth Services Librarian Bri Belanger and I met with Principal Berkas to facilitate distribution of e-cards at Columbia Academy. VI. FOUNDATION A. The Foundation did not meet this month. VII. MISC A. I met with the 21st Century grant joint partners on October 1. B. I met with the city manager and department heads on October 5, 12, and 26. C. I met with city division heads regarding CARES funding on October 14. D. I met with the Anoka County Library Management team on October 8, 15, and 22. E. I met with the Anoka County Library Public Services team on October 28. VIII.
