I. Adult Programs and Displays
a. The library partnered with the Columbia Heights Science of Spirituality to offer a “Healing
Power of Meditation” program via Zoom on Oct. 7. Five adults attended.
b. The library collaborated with the parks and recreation department to offer two “Poems in
the Park” events at Columbia Heights Parks on Oct. 8 (LaBelle Park) and Oct. 29 (Huset
Park West). Five classic poems were displayed on large signboards throughout the parks
for each event. A total of 30 people indicated attendance in October.
c. In partnership with the HeightsNEXT community group, the library offered a Dia de los
Muertos history and craft program via Zoom on Oct. 17. Twenty-four adults and youth
attended.
d. The adult book club met via Zoom on Oct. 21. Four adults discussed F. Scott Fitzgerald’s
“The Great Gatsby”
e. In celebration of the City’s Centennial Celebration, the library collaborated with the
communications department to offer a virtual discussion of “Columbia Heights: Bootstrap
Town,” by Irene Parsons. Eight adults participated, including the author’s daughter!
f. Adult displays included horror books and DVDs, and new books, as well as a scaled down
version of the Sister Cities International’s “Polish American Heritage Month” display on
both the library floor and glass display case.
g. Adult “Take and Make” craft kits were made available at the AskMe desk. The October kit
was “watercolor paint resist cards.” Twenty-five kits were distributed.
h. The Centennial Celebration glass display case this month highlighted the 1930s and was
presented by the Friends of the Library.
i. Curbside materials pickup continued throughout the month, offered in some capacity on
Monday-Friday each week.
j. The virtual ESL conversation circle continues, Monday evenings at 6 pm. The program
is offered in partnership with the Adult Basic Education Center.
II. Meetings
a. I met with a library volunteer Stella Schaeffer and Will Rottler from the COH
communications department on Oct. 9 to discuss an audiobook recording of “Bootstrap
Town.”
b. I met with HeightsNEXT’s Amada Simula to plan the Dia de los Muertos program on Oct.
17.
c. I accepted a “Friends of the League” award from the League of Women Voters Anoka-
Blaine-Coon Rapids via Zoom on Oct. 12. The award is for “providing generous spaces for
the traveling League of Women Voters exhibit, hospitality, and many related civic
engagement activities.”
d. I attended a programming planning meeting with Anoka County Libraries via Zoom on
Oct. 14.
e. I met with Bri Belanger on Oct. 28 to discuss Winter Reads programming.
III. Projects
a. Youth DVDs were ordered.
b. Weeding was completed in the adult audiobooks section.
c. Shelving was re-added to the young adult and E media sections.
IV. Other
a. Four At-Home-Deliveries were made, following safe, curbside procedures.
