I. BUILDING MAINTENANCE AND EQUIPMENT
A. Horwitz performed quarterly inspection of the HVAC system, including filter changes, on
May 26.
B. Commercial Steam Team cleaned carpets on May 21.
II. TECHNOLOGY
A. Information Technology staff upgraded public computers to the Windows 10 operating
system. Half of the computers have been disconnected to facilitate social distancing when
the library reopens to the public.
B. Tech Logic performed annual maintenance and cleaning of the automated materials
handler on May 15.
III. COLLECTION
A. Adult print materials were selected from the December issue of Library Journal and the
December 15th issue of Kirkus Reviews. Anticipated June bestsellers from popular authors
and replacement copies of worn titles were ordered. Adult audio books were ordered.
Juvenile print materials were selected from the December issue of School Library Journal.
Juvenile world language books were ordered. Juvenile videos were ordered.
B. Weeding in adult fiction was completed in K-O. Weeding of easy fiction (E) continued.
IV. PROGRAMS AND VIRTUAL EVENTS
A. The Library remained closed to the public due to state and local emergency declarations
and restrictions intended to slow the spread of COVID-19.
B. The Library Board met in a hybrid Zoom/in-person meeting on May 6.
C. The library premiered a video of Steve Smith’s “Organizing Your Important Documents,
on May 7 on Facebook.
D. A Zoom program on May 12 featured Arvind Naik leading a “Meditation for Inner Peace.”
E. An English as a Second Language Conversation Circle was held on May 18 via Google
Groups.
F. The Library hosted a virtual discussion of the One Book/One Minnesota title “Because of
Winn-Dixie” on May 27.
G. Virtual Storytimes were offered via Facebook Premiere on three Mondays in May.
H. A contactless delivery of materials was made to one At-Home patron.
V. STAFF
A. On May 21, meetings explaining the library’s plan for reopening and reviewing safety
protocols and procedures were held for Library Supervisors in the morning and Library
Pages in the afternoon.

VII. MISC
A. I met with the city manager and department heads on May 4, 11, 18, and 26.
B. I participated in a call with state library directors and the State Librarian on May 7.
C. I met with other city departments to plan for cashless payments on May 27.
D. I met with Anoka County Library staff about Columbia Heights Library’s reopening plans
on May 28.
VIII. LIBRARY CLOSURE
A. Due dates of borrowed items have been extended through June 15.
B. Library staff continued to provide reference and referral via telephone and email between
9 am and 5 pm on weekdays.
C. The automated drive up book return remained open.
D. Contactless curbside pick-up of holds began April 13. Between May 1 and May 22, 358
people were served.
