I. BUILDING MAINTENANCE AND EQUIPMENT
A. Exterior windows were washed on February 5.
B. Public Works staff constructed shelving in the mechanical room to store building supplies
thereby freeing up space in the community room closet for program supplies and furniture.
II. TECHNOLOGY
A. Printing issues and the inability to upgrade staff clients to the current version of Sirsi-
Dynix Workflows continue to vex staff for a fifth consecutive month.
B. Many city departments, including the Library, experienced an internet outage for most of
the day on February 7. The wireless network, self-check kiosks and automated materials
handler remained operational during the outage.
III. COLLECTION
A. Adult print materials were selected from the September issues of Booklist. Adult
paperbacks, graphic novels, and bestsellers to be published in March were also ordered.
Juvenile print materials were selected from the October issues of Booklist, Growing Minds
and School Library Journal. Juvenile graphic novels and easy readers were added. Video
discs and adult audiobooks were also ordered.
B. Weeding in adult large print fiction, large print non-fiction, and romance paperbacks was
completed. Weeding of Easy fiction continued.
IV. PROGRAMS
A. Adult Read Down was held this month.
B. Winter Reads, a reading program for adults, continued through month end.
C. A Teen Service Day program was held on February 1.
D. A Senior Surf computer class for adults was offered on February 5.
E. A class for adults, Fight Snow and Ice Pollution Free, was offered in partnership with the
Mississippi Watershed Management Organization on February 5.
F. Filling Our Hearts with Love, an adult meditation workshop, was offered on February 5.
G. The Library Board met on February 5.
H. The adult services librarian participated in an outreach event for senior citizens at Murzyn
Hall on February 6.
I. A needlecraft workshop for adults was offered on February 10.
J. The Friends of the Library met on February 12.
K. A LEGO Challenge was held on February 12.
L. The Anoka County Law Librarian was available for consultation on February 12.
M. A Toddler Play Date was held on February 18.
N. Graphic Novel Book Club for teens was offered at Columbia Academy on February 18.
O. The adult Book Club met on February 19.
P. A macramé class for adults was taught by the Textile Center on February 19 with funding
from the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
Q. STEAM Saturday: Birds by Ear, was offered on February 29.
R. Family Storytime was offered on two Monday mornings.
S. Three sessions of 4H Tech Wizards were offered.
T. Three sessions of Baby Read, Baby Grow were taught on Thursday mornings in
partnership with ISD13 Early Childhood and Family Education.
U. Eight classes from the Immaculate Conception School visited.
V. “Buddy Up and Read” volunteers met with adults learning English.
W. English Conversation Circles for adult learners were offered on three Monday evenings
and four Thursday afternoons.
X. Deliveries of materials were made to At-Home patrons.
Y. Fifteen adult volunteers donated 50 hours of service; one teen volunteered 6 hours.
V. STAFF
A. Youth Services Librarian Brianna Belanger attended an M3 Huddle for the 21st Century
Community Learning Centers grant and read to Pre-k and kindergarten classes at Valley
View elementary for “I Love to Read” month.
B. Adult Services Librarian Cortni O’Brien met with the Friends of the Library and attended
Census 2020 training for library staff.
C. Full-time staff began to train so that the Library can function as a Questionnaire
Assistance Center during the 2020 Census.
D. Two new Pages, Katherine (Kaytee) Estall and Yuliana Morocho-Calderon, began training
on February 10.
E. Library Supervisor Barb Kondrick and I met for a performance evaluation on February 24.
VI. FOUNDATION
A. The Foundation met on February 19 to receive a funding request for art for the Library
from Catherine Vesley.
VII. MISC
A. A Census recruiter promoted employment with the U.S. Census on February 18.
B. I worked with Kanopy to finalize details for a March 1 soft launch of streaming video for
Columbia Heights Library cardholders.
C. Pat Sowada and I staffed a table at the City Services Expo on Saturday, February 8.
D. I attended a farewell celebration for Anoka County Library Director Maggie Snow who
has been named Executive Director of Minitex. Anoka County Budget Director Patty
Hetrick has been named Interim Library Director.
E. I met with the city manager and department heads on February 10, 18, and 24.
F. I met with the Anoka County Library Management Team on February 13 and 20.
G. I met with the Anoka County Library Public Service Team on February 26.
