Operational Report
DATE: January 31, 2020
I. Adult Programs and Displays
a. Primary library displays are “Winter Reads,” “New Year’s Resolutions,” and “Football.” The
glass case featured a display on winter genre reading, curated by the Friends of the Library.
b. Winter Reads, an adult reading program that encourages patrons age 17 and up to share a short
review of a book they have read or listened to, started January 6 and runs through the end of
February. Participants’ names are entered into weekly and grand prize drawings.
c. Senior Surf class had 2 attendees on Jan. 8. The course instructor was shadowed by the new
director of the Senior Linkage Line.
d. Anoka County Law Librarian John Murphy met with two patrons on Jan. 8.
e. The first Needlecraft Drop-In program took place on Jan. 13, with an attendance of 11 adults and
teens. Volunteer Janna Bereuter provided needlework expertise and guidance.
f. The Library and the Columbia Heights Active Agers co-hosted a Scrabble program at Murzyn
Hall on Jan. 14. Four adults attended.
g. The Library Book Club met on Jan. 15. Twelve adults discussed Everything I Never Told You by
Celeste Ng.
h. The library hosted Christine Hofler, a certified KonMari certified decluttering expert, on Jan. 15.
Total program attendance was 48.
i. Conversation Circles for adult English language learners met twice weekly, on Mondays and
Thursdays, facilitated by three adult library volunteers. Total attendance for January was 43.
j. Six “Buddy Up and Read” partners met a total of 16 times to practice their English language
reading and speaking skills.
k. Seven deliveries were made to At-Home Patrons.
II. Meetings and Outreach
a. I met with the Friends of the Library on Jan. 8.
b. I attended the Anoka County Libraries tax training for staff on Jan. 10.
c. I represented the library at the Adult Basic Education Center (ABE) Open House on Jan. 29.
Over 90 current students attended the fair and learned about library cards and library programs.
III. Projects
a. The ASKME desk tax forms reference book was updated.
b. Many donations were evaluated for condition and relevance, added to the library collection, or
added to the ongoing book sale.
c. Spring program planning was completed and copy finalized for Heights Happenings.
IV. Other
a. Seventeen adult volunteers donated 45.5 hours to the library, working with adult English
Language learners, delivering materials to At-Home Patrons, straightening library materials, and
performing miscellaneous tasks at the library.
