I. BUILDING MAINTENANCE AND EQUIPMENT
II. TECHNOLOGY
A. I sought quotes to update the Windows operating systems of the automated materials
handler (TechLogic) and self-check kiosks (Bibliotecha). Microsoft will discontinue
security updates to Windows 7 on 12/31/19 so operating systems of this vital equipment
will need to be upgraded to Windows 10. City Information Services staff will be
evaluating how to handle the upgrades for public and staff computers.
III. COLLECTION
A. Adult print materials were selected from the May 15th issues of Booklist and Kirkus
Reviews. Replacement copies of adult nonfiction, updated editions of legal handbooks, and
new paperback romances were ordered. Juvenile books were selected from the April issues
of School Library Journal and Growing Minds. Adult DVDs were ordered.
B. Weeding in adult nonfiction 700-800s was completed.
IV. PROGRAMS
A. The Library Board met on September 4.
B. A Senior Surf computer class was offered on September 4.
C. A U.S. Citizenship Class, offered in partnership with Metro North Adult Basic Education,
was held on Mondays and Wednesdays throughout the month.
D. The Friends of the Library met on September 11.
E. Anoka County Law Librarian John Murphy consulted with patrons on the evening of
September 11.
F. A Bike Fix-it Clinic was held on September 14.
G. A Mobile Menders clinic was held on September 14.
H. Quita Curtis, a PATH outreach/housing support consultant began offering Tuesday
morning office hours at the Library on September 17.
I. The Adult Book Club discussed “The Real Michael Swann” by Bryan Reardon on
September 18.
J. Author Carolyn Porter read from her book, “Marcel’s Letters” on September 25.
K. The library hosted four AARP Technology workshops on iPhone skills on September 27
L. Four sessions of Family Storytime were offered by ECFE educator Abby Sundquist or
Youth Services Librarian Bri Belanger.
M. Three sessions of Baby Read, Baby Grow were offered by ECFE educator Abby
Sundquist.
N. “Buddy Up and Read” volunteers met with adults learning English.
O. English Conversation Circles for adult learners were offered on four Monday evenings and
four Thursday afternoons.
P. Deliveries of materials were made to At-Home patrons.
Q. 15 adult volunteers donated 49 hours of service in September.
V. STAFF
A. Cortni O’Brien and I met for her annual performance evaluation. Cortni attended the
Minnesota Library Association annual conference on September 19 and 20. She presented
information about library programs and services at the Metro North Adult Education
Center’s student information fair on September 25. Cortni will be representing the library
on the city committee planning centennial celebrations for 2020.
B. Nick Olberding and I met for his annual performance evaluation.
C. Kelly Olson volunteered for the Library Foundation Spaghetti Dinner on September 11.
VI. FOUNDATION
A. The Foundation hosted their annual spaghetti dinner fundraiser on September 11. Kelly
Olson and I as well as members of the Library Board and Friends of the Library
volunteered during the event.
VII. MISC
A. I attended the Heights Business Council on September 6.
B. I met with Betsy Olson of Anoka County Extension to negotiate a contract to continue 4-H
Tech Wizards at the Library for the fourth year; the library will pay a portion of the youth
facilitator’s salary utilizing 21st Century grant funds.
C. I met with the city manager and department heads on September 9, 23, and 30.
D. I met with the Anoka County Library Management Team on September 5 and 12.
E. I attended training in Open Meeting Law and Government Data Practices provided by the
League of Minnesota Cities on September 16.
