I. BUILDING MAINTENANCE AND EQUIPMENT
A. Public Works staff are negotiating with the brick manufacturer for the replacement of the
failing permeable pavers in the parking lot. The work will be done later in the year.
II. TECHNOLOGY
A. City Information Services staff has been working with the vendor to get the microfilm
reader/printer operational again.
III. COLLECTION
A. Adult print materials were selected from the April issue of Library Journal. Adult
materials with August and September publication dates were also ordered. Juvenile
materials were selected from the March issues of Booklist and Growing Minds. Adult
DVDs were ordered.
B. Weeding in adult nonfiction 600s was completed.
IV. PROGRAMS
A. Hand-Sewn Treasure Necklaces, a class for kids, was offered on August 6.
B. A Senior Surf computer class was offered on August 7.
C. The Library Board met on August 7.
D. Embroidery 101, a class for teens, was offered on August 8.
E. The Adult Book Club discussed “Fahrenheit 451” by Ray Bradbury on August 18.
F. 4-H Tech Wizards presented their projects at the State Fair on August 23.
G. Summer lunches for kids were offered each Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday through
August 8.
H. A recognition event for the teen volunteers was held on August 27.
I. The Friends of the Library have been sorting letters WWII-era letters from the archival
collection. Some of the letters will be on display at the library in September.
J. “Buddy Up and Read” volunteers met with adults learning English.
K. English Conversation Circles for adult learners were offered on four Monday evenings and
five Thursday afternoons.
L. Deliveries of materials were made to At-Home patrons.
M. 17 adult volunteers donated 58 hours of service in August.
V. STAFF
A. Cortni O’Brien provided a library orientation for the new teachers of ISD 13 on August
21.
B. Kelly Olson visited the teachers and staff at Immaculate Conception School on August 22.
C. I met with the 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant team of City Recreation
and District staff.
D. I met with Page Karen Yaeger for a performance evaluation.
VI. FOUNDATION
A. The Foundation met on August 14 to finalize their grant guidelines and grant application
procedure. They also planned for the September spaghetti dinner fundraiser.
VII. MISC
A. I met with the city manager and department heads on August 5, 12, 20, and 26.
B. I met with the Anoka County Library Management Team on August 1, 15, and 22.
C. I attended the Anoka County Library Public Service Team meeting on August 28.
