PROGRAMS a. Ensemble Music presented 2 Spanish Language music and movement classes at the library entitled Canta y Baila Conmigo. Parents were excited about Spanish language opportunities and hope for more in the future. b. Tech Wizards ended for the school year with a showcase on 5/14. Youth had the opportunity to present on what they had learned this year and show off the video games they created. Family and community members were invited and youth were judged against 4-H criteria. They will take their presentations to the State Fair in August. c. LEGO Club met on Wednesday, May 8th. 6 kids used engineering skills, problem solving, and design thinking to build their unique LEGO creations. d. This month I visited all ISD 13 elementary schools to share summer reading opportunities with students. Fliers will also be sent home for parents as well. Over 1500 students were reached. e. We currently have 4 teen volunteers at the library. Teen volunteer hours total 9.75 hours this month. f. COLLECTION a. Book orders placed this month include: May Replacements, Growing Minds 12/18, Maude Hart Lovelace order and Large Print. b. Weeding of YA Fiction continues. III. PROJECTS a. Created an SRP binder for staff reference. b. Prepared for SRP programming. c. Continued planning for fall. d. Updated teen and youth displays for May. e. Managed teen volunteers. f. Prepared and planned for fall storytime. g. Organized supply closets and cupboards. h. Created summer reading surveys. i. Prepared for and planned fall tinkerspace activities. j. Continued summer volunteer interviews. k. Prepared for and led Graphic Novel Book Club. l. Put up summer bulletin board. m. Prepared fall early literacy environment. n. Finalize summer lunch schedule and prepare supplies. o. Trained pages on youth space and services. IV. GRANTS, MEETINGS, COMMUNITY a. 5/9; Anoka County Staff Day b. 5/15; North Park School Visits c. 5/17; Highland School Visits d. 5/20; Valley View School Visits e. 5/21; Summer Lunch Training at Youthprise f. 5/22; Visited Columbia Academy to share summer reading information g. 5/23; Attended 21st Century Advisory Council Meeting at District Center h. 5/24; Met with Jy Xiong to discuss future of 4-H Tech Wizards program. V. STAFF a. Kelly Olson worked on book orders. She also fulfilled the many bulk loan bins we had this month. She completed her usual tasks including month end reports, performer contracts, magazines, counting money, receiving books, and purchase requests. Additionally, she helps with volunteen supervision, and ICS visits.
