PROGRAMS a. Northern Clay taught 18 kids how to create their own coil pot at our April 5th Craft Lab event. Kids will be able to pick up their fired pots at the library the beginning of May. b. 16 teens participated in a 4-H STEAM activity in which they made slime and learned about polymers on April 9th. c. LEGO Club met on Wednesday, April 10th. 6 kids used engineering skills, problem solving, and design thinking to build their unique LEGO creations. d. At our April Graphic Novel Book Club meeting we introduced 2 new members, talked about books and graphic novels we love, and creating graphic novels. e. We hosted another successful READ Dogs event on April 17th in which all 6 slots were full. These youth had a chance to read to Ladybug, a Jack Russell Terrier, and get reading practice in a nonjudgmental environment. f. We ended the month with a STEAM Saturday event in which school age youth learned all about Mycology through a partnership with Spark Y. Youth not only learned about the fungi lifecycle, but they also cultured their own fungi to take home. g. We currently have 5 teen volunteers at the library. Teen volunteer hours total 20.5 hours this month. h. COLLECTION a. Book orders placed this month include: Booklist 11/1,11/15, and 12/1, and Replacements and Audiobooks. b. Weeding of E and JUV nonfiction was completed. III. PROJECTS a. Continued work on preparing manuals and supplies for maternity leave. b. Began planning for fall programming. c. Created volunteer program plan for summer 2019. d. Published summer events on LibCal. e. Managed teen volunteers. f. Prepared and planned for summer storytime. g. Ordered prize books for summer reading program. h. Created fall early literacy plan and schedule. i. Prepared for and planned summer tinkerspace activities. j. Began summer volunteer interviews. k. Prepared for and led Graphic Novel Book Club. l. Obtained quotes from printer for summer printing needs. m. Planned for summer volunteen orientation. n. Gathered supplies for youth read down (summer and fall). o. Put May book displays up. p. Began planning fall storytimes. IV. GRANTS, MEETINGS, COMMUNITY a. 4/16; Attended Libraries Serving Youth Meetup with ISD 13 Media Specialist b. 4/25; Attended YES! Meeting at LSS c. 4/25; Provided library information to 15 caregivers and children at ECFE’s Community Baby Shower d. 4/26; Met with ISD 13 Literacy Coach and Media Specialist to strategize about summer reading V. STAFF a. Kelly Olson worked on book orders. She also fulfilled the many bulk loan bins we had this month. She completed her usual tasks including month end reports, performer contracts, magazines, counting money, receiving books, and purchase requests. Additionally, she helps with volunteen supervision, and ICS visits.
