I. May Programs and Displays
a. Book displays throughout May have included a “Spring into Reading” and a “Minnesota from the
Road” display in conjunction with the Doug Ohman program. The glass display case also featured
Minnesota from the Road memorabilia curated by the Friends of the Library.
b. Three adults attended Senior Surf, an introductory computer class for adults age 55+, on May 1.
Senior Surf is led by a certified trainer from the Minnesota Board on Aging and Metropolitan Area
Agency on Aging.
c. On May 8, three adults attended “Deeper Into Meditation,” a program conducted by Arvind Naik.
d. Seven members of the COH Library Book Club met Wednesday, May 15, to discuss “The Sun Also
Rises” by Ernest Hemingway.
e. Popular Minnesota photographer and storyteller Doug Ohman presented “Minnesota from the Road:
North Shore” to an audience of 58 adults on May 18. The program was cosponsored by the Friends
of the Columbia Heights Public Library.
f. The library partnered with the Columbia Heights Active Agers program to bring two tour groups to
the University of Minnesota’s Andersen Library for a special book exhibit, “The ABC of It: Why
Children’s Books Matter.” Tours took place on May 15 and May 22. Fifteen adults attended the
program.
g. Conversation Circles for adult English language learners met each Monday evening and Thursday
afternoon, facilitated by two adult library volunteers. XX adults attended throughout the month of
May.
h. XX “Buddy Up and Read” partners met at the library a total of XX times to practice their English
language reading and speaking skills.
II. Meetings, Outreach etc.
a. Sessions I attended at Anoka County Staff Day included Exploring the Impact of Culture, ACL
databases update, and adult crafts.
b. I met with the Friends of the Library on May 8.
c. I met with two new Reading Buddies Volunteers.
d. On May 10, I met with program presenter Janna Bereuter.
III. Projects
a. Books, audiobooks, and movies were delivered to 4 at-home patrons.
b. Many donated materials were sorted. Items were added to the collection or sold in the library’s
ongoing book sale.
c. Orders were placed for adult audio books, youth and adult DVDs, and summer reading supplies.
IV. Other
a. 20 adult volunteers donated 51 hours to the library: working with adult English Language learners,
pricing books for the book sale, creating displays, and performing miscellaneous tasks at the library.
