BUILDING MAINTENANCE AND EQUIPMENT A. A new hot water heater was installed for the staff break room. B. A switch on one on the boilers was replaced. C. The snowmelt system is malfunctioning. It is still under warranty so the vendor/installer will be contacted. II. TECHNOLOGY III. COLLECTION A. Adult print materials were selected from the September, October, and November 2018 issues of Booklist, Kirkus Reviews and Library Journal. Adult popular fiction with January publication dates was ordered. Juvenile materials were selected from the August 2018 issue of School Library Journal. Replacement copies of worn popular juvenile fiction were ordered. Adult and juvenile audiobooks were ordered. B. Weeding in adult fiction A-G was completed. Weeding of E Fiction and World Fiction (Juvenile) was completed. IV. PROGRAMS A. The Winter Reads adult reading program began this month. B. Scrabble Club was held on January 2 and 16. C. A LEGO Challenge program for kids was held on January 9. D. The Library Board met on January 9. E. The Friends of the Library met on January 9. F. Open to Business consultant Kathleen DuChene is no longer offering regular drop-in consultations; she will continue to meet with individuals by appointment. G. The Graphic Novel book club was held at Columbia Academy on January 15. H. The adult Book Club discussed Piper Kerman’s “Orange is the New Black” on January 16. I. A Meditation for the New Year program for adults was offered on January 16. J. STEAM Saturday: All About Birds, a program for kids was offered on January 19. K. Winners of the Northeaster/CHPL Photography Contest gathered to collect their work and meet the Library Board on January 22. L. Craft Lab: Furoshiki, a program for teens was offered on January 25. M. Six sessions of Family Storytime were offered on Monday mornings and evenings. N. Eight sessions of Baby Read, Baby Grow were held on Thursday mornings. O. Two sessions of 4-H Tech Wizards, in partnership with University of Minnesota Extension staff, were offered. P. Three classes from the Immaculate Conception School visited. Q. “Buddy Up and Read” volunteers met with adults learning English. R. English Conversation Circles for adult learners were offered on five Thursday afternoons and three Monday evenings. S. Deliveries of materials to At-Home patrons were made. T. Adult volunteers donated 58 hours of service; teens volunteers donated 5.5 hours. V. STAFF A. Adult Services Librarian Cortni O’Brien served as Staff Liaison to the Friends of the Library at their January meeting. B. Youth Services Librarian Bri Belanger helped to facilitate a Youth Advisory Council for 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant programming at ISD 13. C. The Clerk, Adult Services Librarian, Youth Services Librarian, and I met with Communications Coordinator Ben Sandell to discuss promotion strategies. D. An all-staff meeting was held on January 24. We reviewed new respectful workplace policies; patron privacy practices; procedures for handling lost items, security gate alarms and stolen items; and best practices for serving youth and supporting technology use at the library. VI. FOUNDATION VII. MISC A. I met with the city manager and department heads each week. B. I met with the Anoka County Library management team on January 3,10, and 17. C. I met with the Anoka County Library Public Service team on January 23. D. With staff from Columbia Heights Schools, I attended a Minnesota Department of Education training on using data sets to fine-tune programming. This session was for institutions receiving 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant funding. VIII.
