Adult Programs and Displays a. Winter Reads, an adult reading program, wrapped up on Feb. 28. Sixty-five adults participated in Winter Reads and the grand prize winner received a “Hot Beverage Basket.” b. Library displays included Winter Reads, World War II, Books that Rock, and new titles. c. An “Adult Read Down” took place throughout the month of February. 17 adults participated in the event and “read down” $76.20 in fines. d. Senior Surf, an introductory computer class for seniors, age 55+, was held on Wednesday, February 6, instructed by a certified trainer from the Minnesota Board on Aging and Metropolitan Area Agency on Aging. Four seniors were in attendance. e. In partnership with the recreation department, Cortni led a valentine card-making program with seniors at Murzyn Hall on Feb. 6. Nine adults participated. f. The Textile Center conducted a “Coiled Jewelry Making Workshop,” a Legacy-funded program, on February 28. Thirteen adults attended. g. The adult book club met on a very snowy morning on Feb. 20. Four adults discussed “Olive Kittredge” by Elizabeth Strout. h. A World War II history presentation, “Finding Loren: The Life, Death and Discovery of a P-47 Fighter Pilot,” took place the evening of Feb. 27. Twenty-five adults enjoyed the presentation by a mother and son duo. One attendee said: “Nice job pairing the historic side of the story with the human interest side.” i. Conversation Circles for adult English language learners met on Monday evenings and Thursday afternoons. The program is facilitated by two different adult library volunteers. j. Seven “Buddy Up and Read” partners met a total of 22 times to practice their English language reading and speaking skills. k. Seven deliveries were made to At-Home Patrons. II. Meetings a. Cortni met with the Friends of the Library on Feb. 13. b. Cortni met with a potential program presenter on Feb. 22. III. Projects a. Spring press releases were submitted to area news outlets. b. DVDs, music CDs, and program supplies were ordered. IV. Other a. Thirteen adult volunteers donated 38.5 hours to the library, working with adult English Language learners, delivering materials to At-Home Patrons, creating displays, and performing miscellaneous tasks at the library. b. The spring edition of Heights Happenings was delivered to city homes and businesses.
