Adult Programs and Displays a. Daily library programs leading up to the 90th Anniversary Celebration included memorabilia displays, a “my library memories” collection program, a local trivia quest for adults, and scavenger hunts for youth—all sponsored by the Friends of the Library. b. Scrabble Club, sponsored by the Friends of the Library, met on Nov. 6 and 20. Total attendance for the month was 7. c. Twelve senior citizens participated in the library’s “Notes of Gratitude” program in partnership with the Recreation Department’s Senior Services program at Murzyn Hall. Participants drafted hand-written thank you notes to friends and loved ones in time for Thanksgiving delivery. d. Senior Surf for Adults 55+ was held on Wednesday, Nov. 7. Two adults attended the class, which offered hands-on computer learning with help from representatives of the Senior Linkage Line and the Metropolitan Area Agency on Aging. e. Local meditation guide Arvind Naik led a small group meditation at the library on Dec. 13. Two adults attended. f. November is National Homelessness Awareness Month. A cork board display in the public printing area was developed in collaboration with Anoka County. g. Rotating book displays included a “Nanowrimo” display, Marvel comics, fiction set in Minnesota, and a “favorite audiobooks for road trips” display. h. Seven “Buddy Up and Read” partners met a total of 15 times to practice their English language reading and speaking skills. i. Conversation Circles for adult English language learners met twice a week, on Monday evenings (NEW beginning November 19) and Thursdays from 1 to 2 p.m., facilitated by three adult library volunteers. Twenty adults participated in a Conversation Circle in November. j. The Library Book Club met on Wednesday, Nov. 21, to discuss "The Martian" by Andy Weir. Sixteen adults participated and voted on the book selections for 2019. k. Deliveries were made to At-Home Patrons. l. Spring program planning was underway. II. Meetings/Outreach a. I met with Delynn Mulligan on Nov. 7, to plan future programs with the COH Seniors program. b. I met with the Friends of the Library on Wednesday, Nov. 14. III. Projects a. With assistance from the Friends of the Library, a collection box is place in the library for Project Bookshelf, an annual collection of new, donated books for children and teens, to be distributed through SACA’s holiday store. Donated books will be accepted through Tuesday, Dec. 11. b. In preparation for the Anniversary Open House, I created a PowerPoint slideshow featuring historic photos, information, and library patron memories. c. Final orders were written for office supplies, DVDs and audio books. IV. Other a. Eighteen adult volunteers donated 62.5 hours to the library, working with adult English Language learners, planning and organizing the library open house, delivering materials to At-Home Patrons, creating displays, and performing miscellaneous tasks at the library.
