Subject: October Operational Report

I. PROGRAMS
a. Tech Wizards continued this month. Are working in teams to create video games. They are learning
about the brainstorming, design, and coding processes that go into game creation.
b. 5 youth read to Ladybug at our READ Dogs program on 10/3. Reading to a dog provides youth a
judgement free opportunity to practice their reading skills.
c. 23 kids and caregivers participated in Lego Challenge (previously Lego Club) on 10/10. Lego Challenge
allows kids a chance to problem solve, collaborate, and employ design thinking while creating whatever
they can dream up.
d. Graphic Novel Book Club met again in October. We talked about how to read graphic novels and started
brainstorming for our own comics.
e. We offered 2 programs over MEA weekend. At Craft Lab teens were able to make slime and skeleton t-
shirts. We had 17 teens participate. 36 kids and caregivers participated in our Improv Comedy program
on 10/18. Audience participation was a large part of the program and adults and kids had a great time!
f. On 11/27 local bird expert, Amber Burnett, taught 13 kids and caregivers about what they can do for
birds in their backyards right now. Families left with seed bookmarks and an action step to plant those
bird friendly seeds in their yards.
g. Teen volunteer hours total 15 hours this month.

II. COLLECTION
a. Book orders were placed from the following: SLJ 6/18, Booklist 6/1 &6/15 and JUV adds and
replacements, spoken word order.
b. Weeding of juvenile fiction ended. Weeding of juvenile audio and graphics was completed and weeding
of YA graphics was completed.
III. PROJECTS
a. Prepped for and led October book club.
b. Input 21st century grant attendance.
c. Managed early literacy space.
d. Managed and updated youth book displays.
e. Managed Teen Read Month activities.
f. Managed teen volunteers.
g. Watched Supercharge Storytime webinars and completed coursework.
h. Created materials for winter early literacy space.
i. Created plan for ECFE and Head Start visits.
j. Began scheduling spring programs.
k. Scheduled community organizations for Community Night.
l. Completed Winter Heights Happenings copy.
m. Began work on winter program fliers.
n. Prepared open house activities.
o. Created STEAM Storytime plans.
IV. GRANTS, MEETINGS, COMMUNITY

h. 10/30 and 10/31; Met with 5 different ECFE classrooms to talk about the library and early literacy.
V. STAFF
a. This month the major projects page staff worked on are as follows: selection tools, processing, and
various cutting projects.
b. Kelly Olson worked on book orders. She also fulfilled the many bulk loan bins we had this month. She
completed her usual tasks including month end reports, performer contracts, magazines, counting
money, receiving books, and purchase requests. Additionally, she helps with volunteen supervision and
ICS visits.
