I. BUILDING MAINTENANCE AND EQUIPMENT
A. Exterior windows were washed.
B. Public Works created an earthen berm on the vacant lot to the southeast of the library to
mitigate the large volume of rainwater runoff flowing through the parking lot.
C. Public Works staff have also begun to repaint the lines in the parking lot.
II. TECHNOLOGY
III. COLLECTION
A. Adult book selections were made from the May 1st issues of Booklist, Kirkus Reviews and
Library Journal and the May 15th issue of Kirkus. Adult fiction from bestselling authors
with August and September publication dates were pre-ordered. Juvenile selections were
made from the April issues of School Library Journal and BookLinks and the April and
May issues of Booklist. Juvenile non-fiction replacements were ordered.
B. Weeding in adult nonfiction 700s and the entire teen collection was completed.
IV. PROGRAMS
A. The Library Board met on August 1.
B. The Adult Services Librarian facilitated a seniors’ book club at Murzyn Hall on August 1.
C. Teens built solar ovens and made s’mores on August 2.
D. The Summer Nutrition Program ended on August 2.
E. Scrabble Club for adults, hosted by the Friends, was held on August 7 and 21.
F. Open to Business consultant Kathleen DuChene was available on August 14.
G. The adult Book Club met on August 15 to discuss “Just Mercy” by Bryan Stevenson.
H. Teen volunteers were recognized at an after-hours party on August 16.
I. The Teen Advisory Board met on August 20.
J. Two sessions of 4-H Tech Wizards for teens were offered in partnership with University
of Minnesota Extension staff. The teens presented their finished films at the Minnesota
State Fair on August 24.
K. The Summer @ Your Library reading program ended on August 18.
L. The Youth Services Librarian provided an orientation and library tour for new ISD 13
teachers on August 22 and visited new Immaculate Conception School teachers on August
23.
M. “Buddy Up and Read” volunteers met with adults learning English.
N. English Conversation Circles for adult learners were offered on four Thursdays.
O. Deliveries of materials to At-Home patrons were made.
P. Adult volunteers donated 34 hours of service; teens volunteers donated 67.5 hours of
service.
V. STAFF
A. Youth Services Librarian Bri Belanger participated in meetings of the Early Literacy and
YES! (Youth Engagement – School Aged) Teams of the Anoka County Library.
B. Clerk Typist II Kelly Olson and I met for her annual performance evaluation. She also
participated in ACL’s Customer Experience Team meeting.
C. Clerk Typist II Nick Olberding and I met for his annual performance evaluation.
VI. FOUNDATION
A. The Foundation met on August 8 to finalize planning for the September spaghetti dinner
fundraiser. Terry Nightingale was invited to join the Foundation Board.
VII. MISC
A. I met with the city manager and department heads on August 6 and 13.
B. I met with the Management Team of the Anoka County Library on August 2, 9, and 16.
C. I met with Assistant Finance Director Jackie Zillmer to enhance security and accuracy of
library cash handling and to streamline procedures for submitting timecards.
D. I met with the City Manager for my own annual performance review.
