Adult Programs and Displays a. Seven “Buddy Up and Read” partners met a total of 16 times to practice their English language reading and speaking skills. b. Conversation Circles for adult English language learners met weekly, on Thursdays from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., facilitated by adult library volunteers. Total attendance for the month of Sept. was 12 adults. c. Senior Surf for Adults 55+ was held on Wednesday, Sept.5. One adult attended the class, which offered hands-on computer learning with help from representatives of the Senior Linkage Line and the Metropolitan Area Agency on Aging. d. Birdwatching in the Heights, a two-part library program conducted by a local bird expert, was offered Sept. 19 and 26. Twelve adults participated, and the group identified 15 different birds at LaBelle Park! e. “The Vivid Vase,” a crafting program offered through legacy funding, was full with 15 participants. One attendee said: “Great way to spend the night, learning something I knew nothing about!” f. September Book displays included a “Banned Books Week” display, a photography and Columbia Heights photo contest display, Michael Connelly read-alikes, and a special display hosted by the Friends of the Library—a glass case display with memorabilia from the 1970s, commemorating the library’s 90th anniversary. g. The Library Book Club met on Wednesday, Sept. 20, to discuss "Good As Gone” by Amy Gentry. Total attendance was 17 adults. h. Scrabble Club met twice with a total attendance of 17. i. Eight deliveries were made to At-Home Patrons. j. Winter program planning continued. II. Meetings a. Cortni attended the Friends of the Library meeting on Sept. 12. b. Cortni met with several new volunteers to coordinate their fall schedule with Reading Buddies. c. Cortni met with COH recreation coordinator Delynn Mulligan to discuss future programs at the Senior Center. d. Cortni met with Amada from HeightsNEXT on Sept. 28 to discuss a winter program partnership. e. Cortni met with two potential library volunteers. III. Projects a. Orders were placed for office supplies, 2019 calendars and planners, audiobooks and DVDs. IV. Outreach/Other a. Thirteen adult volunteers donated over 38 hours to the library, working with adult English language learners, delivering materials to At-Home Patrons, setting up the display case, and performing miscellaneous tasks at the library. b. Renee, Kelly, Bri and Cortni volunteered at the Foundation Spaghetti Dinner on Sept.12.
