Subject: August Operational Report

I. PROGRAMS
a. Summer Reading ended on August 18th. We gave 195 kids and teens books and had over 3,000 book
reviews turned in throughout the course of the summer.
b. Our last teen program took place on August 2nd with 15 teens creating solar ovens from pizza boxes that
they then used to cook s’mores.
c. Tech Wizards continued to meet in August. The group has been working on putting the finishing
touches on their films culminating in a visit to the State Fair to present and showcase their hard work on
Friday, August 24. 14 youth made the trip and gained confidence, self-esteem, and public speaking skills
in the process.
d. We celebrated our teen volunteers with an afterhours appreciation party on Thursday, August 16th.
After pizza and cookies, we moved into the library for games, crafts, and activities. 20 teens celebrated.
e. TAB continues to meet during the summer. We began talking about our plans and focus for the coming
school year.
f. ISD 13 New Teacher Orientation brought 35 new teachers to the library on August 22nd. I spoke with
teachers about library resources for students, families, and teachers and provided a tour of the library.
g. Teens volunteered a total of 67.5 hours this month.

II. COLLECTION
a. Book orders were placed from the following: Booklist 5/1, 5/15, SLJ 4/18, Book Links 4/18 and
Nonfiction Replacements and Adds.
b. Weeding of Teen Fiction, Teen Audio, and Teen Nonfiction was completed. Weeding of juvenile fiction
began.
III. PROJECTS
a. Prepared Fall Storytime plans.
b. Scheduled ICS class visits and bulk loans.
c. Compiled Summer Reading statistics.
d. Managed and updated youth book displays.
e. Contacted vendors and planned for STEAM Saturdays.
f. Managed teen volunteers.
g. Prepared for Fall Tinkerspace activities.
h. Prepared for Volunteen Appreciation Party.
i. Prepared and created Fall Early Literacy experiences.
j. Created TAB agenda.
k. Prepared for teacher orientations.
l. Created lesson plans for Graphic Novel Book Club.
m. Began planning for winter.
IV. GRANTS, MEETINGS, COMMUNITY
a. 8/6; Met with Amber Burnette about STEAM Saturday partnership.
b. 8/8; Early literacy team meeting at Northtown.
c. 8/9; YES team meeting at Northtown.
d. 8/14; Phone call with Lisa Wong about youth nutrition programming.
e. 8/22; ISD 13 New Teacher Orientation.
f. 8/23; ICS Teacher Orientation.
g. 8/24; 4-H Tech Wizards State Fair Trip.
V. STAFF
a. This month the major projects page staff worked on are as follows: selection tools, processing, and
various cutting projects.
b. Kelly Olson worked on book orders. She also fulfilled the many bulk loan bins we had this month. She
completed her usual tasks including month end reports, performer contracts, magazines, counting
money, receiving books, and purchase requests. Additionally, she helps with volunteen supervision.
