I. PROGRAMS
a. Summer Reading continues this month with kids and teens reading to earn books and weekly prizes such
as Bunker Beach Passes, Twins Tickets, and State Fair Tickets. Participation has been robust this
summer.
b. Silverwood Park taught two classes this July that incorporate science, nature, and art. Both programs
were well attended with 22 youth at the Nature Night Light program and 27 at the Get Your Head in the
Clouds program. Registration is capped at 20, but instructors allowed additional youth into the room for
the science presentation.
c. Tech Wizards continued to meet in July. The group has been working on putting the finishing touches
on their films so that they can present them at the State Fair.
d. Wacky Wednesday ended this month with two final performances- a puppet show put on by One Flea
Circus and a kid-friendly rock show by the Bazillions.
e. Teen Thursdays in July included Yoga by Learning Tree Yoga, an Escape Room where youth test their wit
against a clock, and a String Art program led by Artistry.
f. 4-H offered another STEAM program for school-age kids on Tuesday, July 17. 10 kids used design
thinking and problem solving to create their own Rube Goldberg Machine that would raise a flag.
g. TAB continues to meet during the summer. We continued to plan for the Storybook Tea Party.
h. We celebrated the end of summer programming with a Storybook Tea Party. Youth were invited to
dress up like their favorite storybook character and come to the library for snacks and activities. 24 kids
joined our unicorn and dragon themed event!
i. We will celebrate the end of summer storytime with a Parachute Party on Monday, July 30. Movement
and music and crucial to a child’s development. The Parachute Party promotes both of these skills as
well as play!
j. School-age youth have been requesting an escape room experience of their own, so on Tuesday, July 31,
they’ll be able to solve Minecraft themed puzzles and riddles as they try to breakout!
k. Teens volunteered a total of 100 hours this month.
