PROGRAMS a. Our Summer Reading Program began on Saturday, June 9th. We’ve already had 2 prize drawings and 51 kids and 14 teens have already received a prize book from our cart. The Summer Reading Program runs through the middle of August. b. Learning Tree Yoga taught 15 kids calming techniques they could use at home on Tuesday, June 12th. Each child left with a DIY glitter bottle that also served as a calming tool. c. Tech Wizards will continue meeting this summer, 2 times every month. Teens are continuing work on their films and the summer will culminate in a trip to the State Fair. d. We kicked summer off “officially” on Wednesday, June 13 with a Taiko Drum performance and arts and crafts. Over 120 people came to celebrate. e. Teen Thursdays in June have included a Paper Circuits craft program, Star Wars skills acting class, and a Terrarium program. f. Volunteens came to the library for training on Friday, June 15 and Monday, June 16. This gave teens a chance to learn about volunteering at the library and meet fellow volunteers. g. TAB continues to meet during the summer. We have started to work on Storybook Tea Planning. h. 4-H offered a program to 19 enthusiastic youth that tested their design thinking as they experimented with “rocket fuel” formulas and designed film canister rockets. i. Wacky Wednesdays this month have included an educational program from the Raptor Center and a Magic Show. j. Bruce the Bug Guy came on Tuesday, June 26 to teach kids about bugs. He even brought bugs for kids to hold like moths, millipedes, and beetles. k. We are offering lunches for youth again this summer in partnership with Youthprise on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday afternoons. l. Teens volunteered a total of 62 hours this month. m. COLLECTION a. Book orders were placed from the following: SLJ 3/18; Booklist 3/1 and 3/15, Growing Minds 3/18 and May Replacements and Adds. b. Weeding of easy nonfiction continues. Weeding of juvenile nonfiction was completed. III. PROJECTS a. Prepared early literacy activities teen space for summer. b. Created and implemented summer book displays. c. Prepared for volunteer training. d. Created TAB agenda. e. Managed summer reading program forms, ticket drawings, and book cart. f. Began planning for fall. g. Manage Volunteen program. h. Prepare for and deliver Terrarium program. IV. GRANTS, MEETINGS, COMMUNITY a. 6/15: 21st Century Grant meeting at CHHS. b. 6/19: Community Picnic c. 6/22: Jamboree Parade d. 6/26: Trained staff on Summer Lunch Program. V. STAFF a. This month the major projects page staff worked on are as follows: selection tools, processing, and various cutting projects. b. Kelly Olson worked on book orders. She also fulfilled the many bulk loan bins we had this month. She completed her usual tasks including month end reports, performer contracts, magazines, counting money, receiving books, and purchase requests. Kelly was also trained on summer lunch program and will help run the program this summer.
