SUBJECT: July 2018 Operational Report

I. BUILDING MAINTENANCE AND EQUIPMENT
A. Horwitz staff cleaned exterior condensers on the air conditioning units.
B. Elevated beds outside community room were replanted and sprinklers were adjusted to
promote health plant growth.
C. Emergency exit signage and lighting was tested and cleaned.
II. TECHNOLOGY
A. Information Services staff installed an upgrade to the Cybrarian software which manages
public computer use. Cybrarian authenticates cardholders, collects usage data, and enables
chargebacks for printing.
B. IS staff sought bids to replace a malfunctioning exterior parking lot camera.
III. COLLECTION
A. Adult book selections were made from the April issues of Booklist, Kirkus Reviews and
Library Journal. Juvenile selections were made from the April issues of Booklist and
Growing Minds. Maude Hart Lovelace nominated titles and juvenile non-fiction
replacements were ordered.
B. Weeding in adult nonfiction was completed in 700- 780 and in easy nonfiction.
IV. PROGRAMS
A. Scrabble Club for adults, hosted by the Friends, was held on July 3 and 17.
B. Senior Surf computer instruction was offered on July 5.
C. Open to Business consultant Kathleen DuChene was available on July 10.
D. A naturalist from Silverwood Park taught a “Nature Night Lights” class on July 10.
E. One Flea Puppet Circus presented a Wacky Wednesday program on July 11.
F. Teens explored movement and body awareness with Learning Tree Yoga on July 12.
G. The Teen Advisory Board met on July 16.
H. A 4-H STEM program on Rube Goldberg machines was offered on July 17.
I. The Bazillions presented a rock-’n’-roll Wacky Wednesday program on July 18.
J. The adult Book Club met on July 18 to discuss E.L. Doctorow’s “Ragtime.”
K. Teens solved puzzles at an “Escape the Library” event on July 19.
L. A naturalist from Silverwood Park taught “Get Your Head in the Clouds” on July 24.
M. A Storybook Tea for kids was held on July 25.
N. A String Art program for teens was offered on July 26.
O. Two sessions of 4-H Tech Wizards for teens were offered in partnership with University
of Minnesota Extension staff.
P. Lunches for kids were offered on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Q. Four sessions of Family Storytime were offered on Monday mornings.
R. The Summer @ Your Library reading program and the Youth Read Down program
continued throughout the month.
S. “Buddy Up and Read” volunteers met with adults learning English.
T. English Conversation Circles for adult learners were offered on four Thursdays.
U. Deliveries to At-Home patrons were made by volunteers and the adult services librarian.
V. Adult volunteers donated 33 hours of service; teens volunteers donated 100 hours of
service.
V. STAFF
A. Nancy Soldatow retired on July 2; although she will remain on the staff as a substitute
through December 31.
B. Barb Kondrick returned to active employment as Library Supervisor on July 9.
VI. FOUNDATION
VII. MISC
A. I contracted the musical trio “Flipside” to perform at the 90th Anniversary Open House.
B. I meet with the City Manager and Finance Director about the proposed 2019 budget.
C. I met with the city manager and department heads on July 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30.
D. I met with the Management Team of the Anoka County Library on July 5, 12, and 19.
E. Youth Services Librarian Bri Belanger and I met with city Recreation and ISD 13 staff
about Year Two (2018-2019) of the 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant.
F. I participated in the Anoka County Library Public Service Team meeting on July 25.
