BUILDING MAINTENANCE AND EQUIPMENT A. Small meeting and study rooms (132-136) and the teen area accent wall were painted. B. Low Voltage Contractors performed inspection and testing of the fire alarm and security system. C. Horwitz staff performed routine quarterly inspection and maintenance of HVAC system. D. Exterior windows were washed on June 30. II. TECHNOLOGY A. Information Services staff installed integrated library system software at a mobile workstation in the youth area to allow service to youth and families during busy times. III. COLLECTION A. Adult book selections were made from the March 15th issues of Booklist, Kirkus Reviews and Library Journal. Adult language learning materials, paperbacks, patron requests and July publications were ordered. Juvenile selections were made from the March issues of School Library Journal, Booklist and Growing Minds. Additional copies and replacements of popular youth titles were ordered. Juvenile and adult videos were ordered. B. Weeding in adult fiction S-Z, large print, science fiction, and juvenile nonfiction was completed. Weeding continued in easy nonfiction. IV. PROGRAMS A. Author Allen Eskens spoke about the writing process and his books on June 2. B. Scrabble Club for adults, hosted by the Friends, was held on June 5 and 19. C. Senior Surf computer instruction was offered on June 6. D. Senior Book Club was offered at Murzyn Hall on June 6. E. Summer at Your Library, the 2018 reading program for youth, began on June 9. F. Open to Business consultant Kathleen DuChene was available on June 12. G. A Yoga Workshop for kids was held on June 12. H. A Summer Reading Kickoff with Taiko drumming was held on June 13. I. The Friends of the Library met on June 13. J. The Library Board met on June 13. K. Teens constructed paper circuits for light-up greeting cards on June 14. L. Teen volunteers were oriented and trained at sessions on June 15 and 18. M. The Teen Advisory Board met on June 18 N. A 4-H STEAM program on rocket propulsion was held on June 19. O. Library staff shared program and service information at the Community Picnic on June 19. P. The adult Book Club met on June 20 to discuss Susanah Cahalan’s “Brain on Fire. Q. The Raptor Center presented a Wacky Wednesday program on June 20. R. Teens learned stage combat techniques and built mock light sabers on June 21. S. Library staff, Board and Foundation participated in the Jamboree Parade on June 22. T. Bruce the Bug guy presented a program on insects for kids on June 26. U. Wacky Wednesday on June 27 featured Madden Magic. V. Jurassic World: Terrariums, a program for teens, was offered on June 28. W. Two sessions of 4-H Tech Wizards for teens were offered in partnership with University of Minnesota Extension staff. X. Lunches were offered on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays beginning June 19. Y. Three sessions of Family Storytime were offered on Monday mornings. Z. “Buddy Up and Read” volunteers met with adults learning English throughout the month. AA. English Conversation Circles for adult learners were offered on four Thursdays. BB. Deliveries to At-Home patrons were made by volunteers and the adult services librarian. CC. Adult volunteers donated 41 hours of service; teens volunteers donated 62 hours of service. V. STAFF A. Kelli Bourgeois and I interviewed three candidates for Library Supervisor on June 5. An offer of employment was extended to and accepted by Barb Kondrick. B. Adult Services Librarian Cortni O’Brien attended the ACL ARCH Team meeting. C. Bri Belanger trained staff in the protocols for distributing the lunches provided by Youthprise. VI. FOUNDATION VII. MISC A. I met with the city manager and department heads on June 4, 11, 18, and 25. B. I met with the Management Team of the Anoka County Library on June 7 and 14. C. Youth Services Librarian Bri Belanger and I met with Community Education Director Kristen Stuenkel and Recreation Director Keith Windschitl about including the library in the second year of the 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant. D. I participated in the Anoka County Library Public Service Team meeting on June 27. E. With Amanda Henderson from HGA, I briefly spoke at the award luncheon for the 2018 American Institute of Architects Minneapolis Merit Award winners on June 28. VIII.
