I. BUILDING MAINTENANCE AND EQUIPMENT
A. Archetype began reinstallation of the gratitude wall in the lobby.
B. Orkin inspected the building for evidence of pest infestations.
C. Setpoint staff performed a planned annual review of monitoring devices and HVAC
system programming.
II. TECHNOLOGY
A. The SirsiDynix integrated library system software was upgraded on April 11. Information
Services staff had not yet installed upgraded client on staff machines by month end.
III. COLLECTION
A. Adult book selections were made from January issues of Booklist, Kirkus Reviews and
Library Journal and the February 1st issues of Kirkus and Library Journal. Adult
replacements and patron requests were ordered. Juvenile selections were made from the
December issues of Kirkus Reviews, and School Library Journal and the January issues of
Booklinks, Booklist, and Growing Minds. Juvenile and adult videos were ordered.
B. Weeding in adult fiction G-K was completed. Weeding in easy and juvenile nonfiction
continued.
IV. PROGRAMS
A. Scrabble Club for adults, hosted by the Friends, was held on April 3 and 17.
B. Senior Surf computer instruction was offered on April 4.
C. The Senior Book Club met on April 4.
D. Family Night, an evening storytime program, was held on April 4.
E. The Library Board met on April 4.
F. National Library Week was celebrated with a mayoral proclamation and an interactive
passive program at the library throughout the month.
G. Mysteries of History, an adult program, was offered by Anoka County Historical Society
staff on April 9.
H. Open to Business consultant Kathleen DuChene was available on April 10.
I. The Friends of the Library met on April 11 for their semi-annual luncheon.
J. LEGO Club for kids was held on April 11.
K. The Teen Advisory Board met on April 14 to complete a community service project.
L. The Adult Book Club met with author Christopher Valen for a discussion of his latest
novel, “Speak for the Dead” on April 18.
M. Author Richard Shefchik discussed the growth of rock-n-roll in Minnesota and his book,
“Everybody’s Heard about the Bird” on April 21.
N. R.E.A.D. Dogs was offered on April 23.
O. A Maker Club for kids was held on April 25.
P. Four Tuesday afternoon sessions of 4-H Tech Wizards for teens were offered in
partnership with University of Minnesota Extension staff.
Q. Four sessions of Family Storytime were offered on Monday mornings.
R. Four sessions of Baby Read, Baby Grow storytime were offered on Thursday mornings.
S. Five classes from the Immaculate Conception School visited.
T. Bulk loans were prepared for ISD 13’s Adventure Club and Mini Adventure Club and the
Immaculate Conception School.
U. “Buddy Up and Read” volunteers met with adults learning English throughout the month.
V. English Conversation Circles for adult learners were offered on five Thursday afternoons.
W. Deliveries to At-Home patrons were made by volunteers and the adult services librarian.
X. Twelve adult volunteers donated 65 hours of service; teens volunteers donated 6 hours of
service.
V. STAFF
A. Adult Services Librarian Cortni O’Brien attended a conference on interlibrary loan
sponsored by Minitex. She met with the Friends of the Library, Heights Next, and an
alumni book club from the College of St. Benedict.
B. Youth Services Librarian Bri Belanger attended an Anoka County Library (ACL) Early
Literacy Team meeting and met with staff from Youthprise, the underwriters of the library
summer lunch program.
C. Clerk Typist Nick Olberding participated in ACL’s ad-hoc circulation manual revision
team.
D. Clerk Typist Kelly Olson participated in ACL’s Customer Experience Team.
E. I met with Page Tammie Powell for a one-year performance evaluation on April 5.
F. I met with Page Maria Fink for her one-year performance evaluation on April 11.
VI. FOUNDATION
A. The Foundation met on April 11.
VII. MISC
A. I met with the Columbia Heights city manager and department heads on April 2, 9 16, 23
and 30. Department heads and Council members met with Congressman Keith Ellison on
April 3.
B. I met with Gail Olson on a proposed Northeaster article on the library’s 90th anniversary.
Cortni and I were interviewed for the cable broadcast of Voices of Northeast.
C. I worked with staff from the Community Development and Public Works departments to
prepare a request for an ordinance variance for the proposed LED monument sign.
D. I met with the management team of the Anoka County Library on April 5, 12, and 19.
E. I participated in the Anoka County Public Service Team meeting on April 25.
