Adult Programs and Displays a. Winter Reads, an adult reading program, wrapped up on Feb. 28. Fifty adults participated in Winter Reads and the grand prize winner received a “Book Lover’s Basket.” b. The first “Adult Read Down” took place throughout the month of February. Twenty-two adults participated in the event and “read down” $92.20 in fines. c. Seniors Book Club met at the library on February 7 to discuss “The Secret Life of Bees.” Six adults attended. d. Honoring Choices Minnesota offered a class on Advanced Care Planning on February 7. Eight adults attended the session. e. Senior Surf, an introductory computer class for seniors, age 55+, was held on Wednesday, February 7, instructed by a certified trainer from the Minnesota Board on Aging and Metropolitan Area Agency on Aging. Two seniors were in attendance. f. North Star Genealogy conducted “Organize Your Family Research,” a Legacy-funded program, on February 28. Twenty-one adults attended. g. Conversation Circles for adult English language learners met on Thursdays from 1 to 2 p.m., facilitated by two different adult library volunteers. h. Seven “Buddy Up and Read” partners met a total of 22 times to practice their English language reading and speaking skills. i. Scrabble Club, sponsored by the Friends of the Library, met twice, on February 6 and 20. j. The Library Book Club met on Wednesday, February 21, to discuss “The Life We Bury” by Allen Eskens. k. Deliveries were made to At-Home Patrons. II. Meetings a. Cortni attended the Anoka County Libraries’ ARCH meeting on Feb. 12. b. Cortni attended the COH Sister Cities meeting on Feb. 13. c. Cortni met with the Friends of the Library on Feb. 14. III. Projects a. The library annual report for 2017 was compiled and submitted to the City. b. Spring press releases were submitted to area news outlets. c. DVDs, music CDs, audiobooks on CDs, and office and program supplies were ordered. IV. Other a. Twelve adult volunteers donated 46.5 hours to the library, working with adult English Language learners, delivering materials to At-Home Patrons, creating displays, and performing miscellaneous tasks at the library. b. A new technology assistant volunteer began working at the library on Feb. 23. c. The spring edition of Heights Happenings was delivered to city homes and businesses.
