I. BUILDING MAINTENANCE AND EQUIPMENT
A. Peoples Electric replaced drivers on LED ceiling fixtures again. All lights were working at
month end.
II. TECHNOLOGY
A. Information Services installed a mobile workstation in the children’s area of the library.
The desk will be staffed during busy times to provide service to youth and their
caregivers.
III. COLLECTION
A. Adult book selections were made from the November and December issues of Booklist,
Kirkus Reviews and Library Journal. Adult paperback romances and westerns as well as
hardcover fiction with February publication dates were ordered. Juvenile selections were
made from the October issues of Booklist, Kirkus Reviews, and School Library Journal.
Music discs for children was ordered. Adult music, videos and audiobooks were ordered.
B. Weeding in adult nonfiction 641-699 and adult fiction A-C was completed. Weeding in
easy fiction and the juvenile world language collections was completed.
IV. PROGRAMS
A. Scrabble Club for adults, hosted by the Friends, was held on February 6 and 20.
B. Senior Surf was held on February 7.
C. The Senior Book Club met to discuss “The Secret Life of Bees” on February 7.
D. Honoring Choices, an advanced care planning seminar for adults, was held on February 7.
E. The Library Board met on February 7.
F. Family Night, an evening storytime program, was held on February 7.
G. The Early Reader Club met on February 8 and 22.
H. Beads and Bangles, a class for kids by ArtStart, was offered on February 9.
I. Open to Business consultant Kathleen DuChene was available on February 13.
J. The Friends of the Library met on February 14.
K. LEGO Club for kids was held on February14.
L. A Marvel Valentine’s Day event for teens was held on February 14.
M. The Teen Advisory Board met on February 17.
N. An Obstacle Course for Toddlers was open on February 20.
O. The Adult Book Club met to discuss Allen Eskens’ “The Life We Bury” on February 21.
P. R.E.A.D. Dogs was offered on February 26.
Q. A Maker Club for kids was held on February 28.
R. Organize Your Family Research, taught by North Star Genealogy, was offered on
February 28.
S. Winter Reads, a reading program for adults concluded on February 28.
T. Adult Read Down was offered through the month; 22 adults participated and $92.20 of
fines were waived.
U. Four Tuesday afternoon sessions of 4-H Tech Wizards for teens were offered in
partnership with University of Minnesota Extension staff.
V. Three sessions of Family Storytime were offered on Monday mornings.
W. Four sessions of Baby Read, Baby Grow storytime were offered on Thursday mornings.
X. Two classes from the Immaculate Conception School visited.
Y. Bulk loans were prepared for ISD 13’s Adventure Club and Mini Adventure Club and
Immaculate Conception School.
Z. “Buddy Up and Read” volunteers met with adults learning English throughout the month.
AA. English Conversation Circles for adult learners were offered on four Thursdays this
month.
BB. Deliveries to At-Home patrons were made by volunteers and the adult services librarian.
CC. Adult volunteers donated 46.5 hours of service.
V. STAFF
A. Adult Services Librarian Cortni O’Brien participated in the Anoka County Library Arts
and Cultural Heritage Team meeting. She also attended meetings of Columbia Heights
Sister Cities and the Friends of the Library.
B. Youth Services Librarian Bri Belanger participated in Anoka County Library’s YES!
Team(Youth Engagement – School Aged) meeting on Feburary 8. She also read to a
preschool class at Valley View Elementary as part of I Love to Read month.
VI. FOUNDATION
A. The Foundation did not meet in February.
VII. MISC
A. I met with the Columbia Heights city manager and department heads on February 5, 12,
and 26.
B. I met with the management team of the Anoka County Library on February 8, 15, and 22.
C. I participated in the Anoka County Public Service Team meeting on February 26. Prior to
the meeting I met with ACL circulation staff to establish procedures for handling damaged
materials.
D. Staff tracked reference questions as part of a quarterly MELSA Survey Week from
February 5-10.
