BUILDING MAINTENANCE AND EQUIPMENT A. LED ceiling fixtures continue to fail. At month-end twenty were out. The manufacturer has provided replacement parts and authorized People’s Electric to complete the work. B. Facilities maintenance supervisor Eric Hanson and staff from Cool Air (HVAC contractor) and SetPoint Systems (electronic controls) continue to work on the snow melt boiler and sensors because the system is not working as designed. C. Cool Air staff mapped locations of underfloor cleanouts of the plumbing system. II. TECHNOLOGY A. We continue to experience intermittent outages of the RFID antennae pads at the ask me desk and book drop workstations. III. COLLECTION A. We began ordering collection materials again this month. Adult selections were made from September and October issues of Booklist, Kirkus Reviews and Library Journal. Adult hardcover fiction with January publication dates and replacement copies were also ordered. Juvenile selections were made from the August and September issues of Booklist, Kirkus Reviews, and School Library Journal B. Weeding in adult nonfiction 600-640 was completed. Weeding continued in easy fiction. IV. PROGRAMS A. Scrabble Club for adults, hosted by the Friends, was held on January 2 and 16. B. Senior Surf was held on January 3. C. Family Night, an evening storytime program, was held on January 3. D. Open to Business consultant Kathleen DuChene held open house hours on January 9. E. The Library Board meet on January 10. F. The Friends of the Library met on January 10. G. LEGO Club for kids was held on January 10. H. The Early Reader Club met on January 11 and 25. I. A Block Party for toddlers was held on January 16. J. Winter Reads, a reading program for adults began on January 16. K. The Adult Book Club met to discuss Jean Kwok’s “Girl in Translation” on January 17. L. The Teen Advisory Board met on January 20. M. A Maker Club for kids was held on January 31. N. Three Tuesday afternoon sessions of 4-H Tech Wizards for teens were offered in partnership with University of Minnesota Extension staff from Anoka County. O. Three sessions of Family Storytime were offered on Monday mornings. P. Three sessions of Baby Read, Baby Grow storytime were offered on Thursday mornings. Q. Ten classes from the Immaculate Conception School visited. R. Bulk loans were prepared for ISD 13’s Adventure Club and Mini Adventure Club and ICS. S. Winter Read Down for kids allowed twenty-one kids to read for a total of 27.75 hours resulting in $93.10 of overdue fines being waived during January. T. Volunteer reading “Buddies” met with adults learning English throughout the month. U. English Conversation Circles for adult learners were offered on four Thursdays this month. V. Deliveries to At-Home patrons were made by volunteers and the adult services librarian. W. Adult volunteers donated 58 hours of service. V. STAFF A. Adult Services Librarian Cortni O’Brien and I met for her six-month performance evaluation. She also met with the Friends of the Library and the Anoka County Library Arts and Culture team. VI. FOUNDATION A. The Foundation met on January 9 to elect officers. VII. MISC A. I met with Columbia Heights division heads and the city manager on January 8, 16, 22, and 29. B. I met with the management team of the Anoka County Library on January 11. C. The Library closed early (at 5:00 p.m.) on Monday, January 22, due to a snow storm. VIII.
