BUILDING MAINTENANCE AND EQUIPMENT A. LED ceiling fixtures continued to fail and drivers are replaced as needed. B. The sound system in the community room is now working. C. Facilities maintenance supervisor Eric Hanson and staff from Cool Aire (HVAC contractor) and SetPoint Systems (electronic controls) continue to work on the snow melt boiler and sensors because the system is not working as designed. II. TECHNOLOGY III. COLLECTION A. No collection materials were ordered. However, staff continued to receive deliveries on outstanding orders throughout the month and worked diligently to make books and media available to the public by yearend. B. Weeding in adult mysteries P-Z and nonfiction 400s and 500s was completed. Weeding in adult nonfiction 600s was started and continued in easy fiction. IV. PROGRAMS A. Protect Your Privacy Online, a course for adults, was offered on December 5. B. Scrabble Club for adults was held on December 5 and 19. C. A Senior Surf class for older adults was held on December 6. D. The Library Board meet on December 6. E. Senior Book Club, facilitated by adult services librarian Cortni O’Brien, was held at Murzyn Hall on December 6. F. The inaugural Family Night, an evening storytime program, was held on December 6. G. The Manhattan Project art exhibit, on display in the community room, was extended, through January 5. H. Books Move Me: Yoga Storytimes were held on December 11 and 18. I. A program about architect Cass Gilbert and Minnesota State Capitol furnishings was held on December 11. J. LEGO Club for kids was held on December 13. K. The Friends of the Library met on December 13. L. The Teen Advisory Board created fleece blankets for Southern Anoka Community Assistance (S.A.C.A.) on December 16. M. The Adult Book Club met for a holiday celebration on December 20. N. A Maker Club for kids was held on December 27. O. A Noon Year’s Eve party for toddlers was offered on December 29. P. Two classes from the Immaculate Conception School visited the library. Q. Bulk loans were prepared for ISD 13’s Adventure Club and Mini Adventure Club and ICS. R. Volunteer reading “Buddies” met with adults learning English throughout the month. S. English Conversation Circles for adult learners were offered on four Thursdays this month. T. Deliveries to At-Home patrons were made by volunteers and the adult services librarian. U. Donations of new, unwrapped books were collected for Project Bookshelf. A total of 284 books were donated and were distributed by S.A.C.A.in December. V. Adult volunteers donated 58 hours of service. V. STAFF A. Youth Services Librarian Bri Belanger and I met for her annual review. Bri also attended Storytime Palooza, and an ACL Early Literacy Team meeting this month. She presented to Global Academy 6-8th graders and staffed an information table at Highland Elementary’s English Language Family Night on December 5. B. Adult Services Librarian Cortni O’Brien, in cooperation with Delynn Mulligan, senior coordinator, created and facilitated a new senior book club, C. Four library staff were recognized for years of service at the city holiday party on December 13: Kelly Olson for twenty-five years, Al Mamaril for ten years, Alison Marzolf for ten years, and Gianna Ritzko for five years. VI. FOUNDATION A. The Foundation met on December 13. The Foundation donated $41,000 to the library in 2017. $37,620 for the design and fabrication of the art installation in the lobby which recognizes donors to the library and thanks the citizens of Columbia Heights in multiple languages; $2,880 to install a play/learning installation in the children’s area in 2018; and $500 for the purchase of large print books. VII. MISC A. I met with Columbia Heights division heads and the city manager on December 4,11, and 27. B. I met with the management team of the Anoka County Library on December 7, 14, and 21. C. I met with the public service team of the Anoka County Library on December 27. VIII.
