I. BUILDING MAINTENANCE AND EQUIPMENT
A. A workaround was made to the south Central entrance door so that it will auto-unlock
while we await replacement parts.
B. LED ceiling fixtures continue to fail; the manufacturer will audit the electrical service to
determine what is causing the problem.
C. Peoples Electric and the equipment vendor are addressing ongoing issues with the sound
system in the meeting room.
II. TECHNOLOGY
A. Staff continues to experience outage of the RFID antennae at the public service station.
III. COLLECTION
A. Adult print books were selected from the March and April issues of Booklist, Kirkus
Reviews and Library Journal. Adult hardcover fiction with September publication dates
was ordered. Large print books were ordered in anticipation of a restricted gift to the
Foundation. Youth selections were made from January, February, March and April issues
of Booklist, Kirkus Reviews and School Library Journal. Adult music and books on CD
and music were ordered.
B. Weeding of the adult large print and nonfiction sections 000-199 was completed. Weeding
began in young adult fiction.
IV. PROGRAMS
A. A Drone Discovery event for kids was offered on August 1.
B. A Senior Surf class for older adults was held on August 2.
C. The Library Board met on August 2.
D. Mini-Adventures visited the library on August 7.
E. A Trash Can Mural Camp for kids was held on August 8-10.
F. Teen volunteers were celebrated and recognized by the City Council on August 14.
G. Scrabble Club for adults was held on August 1 and 15.
H. The Adult Book Club discussed “Beautiful Ruins” by Jess Walter on August 16.
I. The Summer Reading Program (Bookawocky) ended on August 19.
J. The Teen Advisory Board met on August 21.
K. The Youth Services Librarian provided a library orientation for new ISD 13 teachers on
August 23 and visited teachers at Immaculate Conception School on August 28.
L. Tech Wizards met twice this month and went to the State Fair together on August 31.
M. Four sessions of Early Reader Book Club were held on Tuesday afternoons.
N. Bulk loans were prepared for ISD 13’s Adventure Club and Mini Adventure Club.
O. Volunteer reading “buddies” met with adults learning English throughout the month.
P. English Conversation Circles for adult learners were offered on five Wednesdays.
Q. Adult volunteers donated 43 hours to the library this month.
V. STAFF
A. Adult Services Librarian Cortni O’Brien was introduced to the Library Board on August 2
and the City Council on August 28.
B. I met with Kelly Olson and Nick Olberding for their annual performance evaluations.
C. Youth Services Librarian Brianna Belanger participated in the ACL Storytime Share on
August 11.
VI. FOUNDATION
A. The Foundation met on August 23 to plan the September Spaghetti Dinner fundraiser.
VII. MISC
A. I spoke with Washington County staff selecting architects for a branch library renovation.
B. I met with the City Manager for my annual performance evaluation.
C. I met with City division heads and the City Manager on August 7,14, 21, and 28.
D. I met with the management team of the Anoka County Library on August 10.
E. I participated in the final session of facilitation training on August 18.
