I. BUILDING MAINTENANCE AND EQUIPMENT
A. I participated in an 11-month walkthrough with construction contractors, architects and
consultants on June 6.
B. Facility Maintenance Supervisor Eric Hansen continues to work with SetPoint staff to
control the air handling unit in the Community room.
C. Sprinklers and fire alarm panel were tested on 6/15 by Low Voltage Contractors.
D. The south Central Avenue door is still not unlocking consistently each morning.
Contractors and sub-contractors are addressing the issue.
II. TECHNOLOGY
A. Library staff continues to experience inconsistent functionality of the RFID antenna pads
at the service desk and bookdrop workstations. IS staff is troubleshooting the issue.
Luckily the self-check units are working.
III. COLLECTION
A. Adult print books were selected from the January and February issues of Library Journal.
Adult hardcover fiction with June and July publication dates was ordered. Youth
selections were made from the January and February issues of School Library Journal.
Popular juvenile fiction was ordered to fill summer reading requests.
B. Weeding in adult fiction and easy and juvenile nonfiction continued.
IV. PROGRAMS
A. Scrabble Clubs for adults were held on June 6 and 20.
B. A Senior Surf computer class for adults was taught by instructors from the Senior
LinkAge Line on June 7.
C. The Library Board met with all members in attendance on June 7.
D. Bri conducted an orientation for teens on June 9.
E. Starting June 13, library staff served lunch to youth and families on Tuesdays,
Wednesdays, and Thursdays each week.
F. A “Paper,Art, Pokemon, Go! Program for kids was held on June 13.
G. The Summer Reading Kickoff was held on June 14 and featured an interactive
performance by local musicians Leo and Kathy Lara. The Friends of the Library assisted
with decorations and hospitality at the event.
H. The Secrets of Ice Cream, a STEM program for teens, was offered on June 15.
I. The Teen Advisory Board met on June 19.
J. A Mad Science Laboratory program for kids was held on June 20.
K. The Adult Book Club discussed Daniel James Brown’s The Boys in the Boat on June 21.
L. Wacky Wednesday on June 21 featured musicians Ten Penny Tunes
M. Teens tried to “Escape the Library! on June 22.
N. Blues for Kids was taught on June 27.
O. Wacky Wednesday on June 28 was offered by the Bakken Museum.
P. Teen Book Club: Horror, Suspense and Mystery, was held on June 29.
Q. Anoka County Extension staff offered 4-H Tech Wizards programs on two Tuesdays.
R. Three sessions of Toddler Storytime were offered.
S. Three sessions of Preschool Storytime were held.
T. Bulk loan materials were prepared for ISD 13’s Adventure Club and Mini Adventure
Club.
U. Volunteer reading “buddies” met with adults learning English throughout the month.
V. Conversation Circles for adults learning to speak English were offered on Wednesdays
and Thursdays.
W. Adult volunteers donated 30.5 hours to the library this month serving as reading buddies,
facilitating conversation circles, greeting attendees and providing hospitality for programs,
pulling display materials and hosting Scrabble Club.
V. STAFF
A. Youth Services Librarian Bri Belanger, Clerk Winnie Coyne and Clerk Typist 2 Kelly
Olson were trained to oversee the summer nutrition program for Youthprise on June 7.
VI. FOUNDATION
A. The Foundation met on June 14.
VII. MISC
A. I gave a tour to two groups of senior citizens from the Oak Hill Baptist Church on June 1.
B. I gave a tour to the assistant director of the Dakota County Library system and staff from
the Lakeville branch on June 16.
C. I participated in a second goal setting session with the City Council and department heads
on June 5.
D. I made a presentation to the Council on June 12 comparing library visits, circulation,
program attendance, computer use, and room reservations from 2015 and 2016.
E. I met with the management team of the Anoka County Library on June 1, 8, 15 and 22.
F. I participated in a second session of facilitation training on June 23.
