PROGRAMS a. Bulk loans of materials were prepared for ICS, Adventure Club and Mini Adventure Club. b. Tech Wizards continued to meet throughout the month of October. Participants are working on creating a 3-10 minute film. They’ve created story boards and begun filming. c. On Friday, 10/6, 22 kids and parents learned about different drums and had a chance to try them out during our African Drumming program. d. LEGO Club met on 10/11 and 21 kids spent the hour creating and building. Kids are learning social emotional skills like cooperating, sharing, and teamwork as well as valuable engineering skills. e. 9 ICS 1st graders visited the library on 10/16. f. We kicked off our new READ Dogs season with two new teams and 9 kids had a chance to practice reading to Tanner, an Australian Shepherd mix, and Ladybug, a Jack Russell Terrier. g. 13 teens broke out of the library on Wednesday, 10/18 at our Escape the Library Program. They exhibited teamwork and problem solving skills in order to solve the puzzles and escape. h. The MN Opera visited the library over MEA break and presented an interactive storytime to 34 kids and parents. They program ended with a cat chorus! i. TAB met on 10/21 to discuss future programs and create posters to help recruit new members. j. 10 kids worked together to create marble roller coasters at the 10/25 Maker Club program. Kids ranging from K to 8th grade used design thinking while learning about the physics at work in roller coasters. k. Thursday, 10/26 was Lights Out Afterschool. Lights Out Afterschool seeks to highlight quality out of school opportunities for youth in the community. The library participated in partnership with 4-H by offering a Snap Circuits program where 9 youth experimented with electricity. l. COLLECTION a. Book orders were placed from the following selection tools: Booklist 5/1, 6/1 and 6/15; Kirkus 5/15, 6/1, 6/15, 7/1, 7/15 and SLJ 5/17, 6/17, 7/17. Orders were also placed in the following areas: replacements and adds and graphic novels. b. Weeding of J audio and fiction was completed this month. Weeding of J graphic has begun. c. J series were interfiled with J fiction this month. III. PROJECTS a. Created fall and winter displays. b. Prepared early lit and teen passive activities for winter. c. Prepped for Maker Club session. d. Worked on winter fliers and program planning. e. Planned winter and spring programming. f. Prepared TAB agenda. g. Prepped for Escape the Library program. IV. GRANTS, MEETINGS, COMMUNITY a. 10/4: Met with Heather Kopp, Middle and High School Media Specialist to talk about possible collaborations. b. 10/5: Visited Head Start Parent Meeting to share information about the library with 20 parents. c. 10/11: Attended Early Literacy Team Meeting. d. 10/24, 10/25, 10/26: Visited ECFE classrooms to share storytime with kids and library information with parents reaching a total of 84 kids and parents. V. STAFF a. This month the major projects page staff worked on are as follows: selection tools, processing, and various cutting projects. b. Kelly Olson worked on book orders. She also fulfilled the many bulk loan bins we had this month. She completed her usual tasks including month end reports, performer contracts, magazines, counting money, receiving books, and purchase requests.
