Subject: July Operational Report

I. PROGRAMS
a. Bulk loans of materials were prepared for Adventure Club and Mini Adventure Club.
b. Early Reader Club ran the month of August. We met each Tuesday and focused on rhyming words,
beginning sounds, and ending sounds. There were many opportunities for beginning readers to practice
reading, writing, and playing with word sounds.
c. On August 1st, 4-H hosted a drones program where 13 teens had a chance to learn about drone
technology and create their own drone.
d. The second week of August, the library hosted Trash Can Mural Camp in which 10 teens and tweens
learned about water stewardship, created art, and painted a trash can that will be located on Central
Avenue. This project was in collaboration with the City of Columbia Heights and MWMO.
e. We celebrated our teen volunteers on Monday, August 14 with pizza and cookies. Later, teens were
acknowledged in front of the council.

II. COLLECTION
a. Book orders were placed from the following selection tools: Booklist 1/17, 2/1/17, 2/15/17, 3/1/17;
Kirkus 1/1/17, 2/1/17, 2/15/17, 3/1/17, 3/15/17 . Orders were also placed in the following areas:
replacements and adds.
b. Weeding of YA fiction began this month.
III. PROJECTS
a. Prepared for fall storytimes.
b. Created TAB agenda.
c. Updated bulletin board for fall.
d. Compiled statistics for summer reading program.
e. Planned for Volunteen appreciation party.
f. Managed Volunteen program.
g. Prepared for teacher orientations.
h. Fall book displays and passive programs
i. Began winter program planning.
IV. GRANTS, MEETINGS, COMMUNITY

V. STAFF
a. This month the major projects page staff worked on are as follows: selection tools, processing, and
various cutting projects.
b. Kelly Olson worked on book orders. She also assisted in the many bulk loan bins we had this month. She
completed her usual tasks including month end reports, performer contracts, magazines, counting
money, receiving books, and purchase requests.
