PROGRAMS a. Bulk loans of materials were prepared for Adventure Club and Mini Adventure Club. b. 28 teens and tweens joined us to celebrate all things Pokémon on Thursday, July 6th. There was enthusiasm and comradery throughout the celebration. c. We continued serving lunches Tuesday through Thursday from 11:15-12:45 through the month of July. Families are invited to join us for lunch and then stay at the library for programs. We are working on building the program as the summer continues. This is offered in partnership with Youthprise. d. On July 10th, the Fire Department visited stortyime and shared stories with 43 kids and parents. After storytime, kids had a chance to walk through the ambulance. e. Pollinate MN came out on July 11th to teach 45 kids about bees! Participants had a chance to see bees in a hive, try on beekeeper outfits and taste different honeys. f. Wacky Wednesday continued this month with storyteller, Paulino Brener, who told stories from around the world to 85 people and Snake Discovery who shared information about reptiles with 101 people. g. Teen Book Club continued this month. Teens talked about their favorite books turned into films and first books in a series while bonding over a love of reading. h. Teen Advisory Board met on July 17th where 3 members worked on Storybook Tea decorations. i. On July, 18th, the Police Department visited storytime and shared stories with 42 kids and parents. After stories the kids had a chance to see a squad car. j. We had a program scheduled on July 18th called Yo Yo Yoga, but unfortunately, the instructor did not come. We had 12 kids show up and spent time reading stories about yoga and following along to Cosmic Kids Yoga. k. MN Center for the Book Arts came on July, 20th and taught 12 teens and tweens about Suminagashi Marbling a Japanese art form. l. Mad Science came to teach 23 kids about glow in the dark technology on July 25th. m. Our first annual Storybook Tea took place on Wednesday, July 26th. This celebration takes the place of the American Girl Tea Party. My hope was to make the party more inclusive and we definitely saw an increase in participation from boys. Kids came dressed as their favorite character from a book and we celebrated the end of summer with snacks and crafts. n. We ended our summer storytime session with a parachute party on Monday, July 31st. Music and movement are important for a number of reasons. Children work on important motor skills and executive function skills when they follow directions and grip the chute. They also learn early literacy and social and emotional skills as they gain new vocabulary and learn how to take turns. 50 kids and parents attended this program. o. COLLECTION a. Book orders were placed from the following selection tools: SLJ 3/16 and Kirkus 1/15/17. Orders were also placed in the following areas: replacements and adds. b. Weeding of E and J nonfiction continued this month. III. PROJECTS a. Prepared for and promoted July programs. b. Created TAB agenda. c. Maintained summer reading program supplies. d. Maintained and planned early literacy experiences and teen passive programming for summer. e. Prepared Volunteen Appreciation Party invites. f. Managed Volunteen program. g. Managed summer food program. h. Prepared and promoted Storybook Tea Party. i. Fall programming submitted to Heights Happenings and inputted into calendars and evanced. IV. GRANTS, MEETINGS, COMMUNITY a. 7/21: Attended YES Meeting at NTN. V. STAFF a. This month the major projects page staff worked on are as follows: selection tools, processing, and various cutting projects. b. Kelly Olson worked on book orders. She also assisted in the many bulk loan bins we had this month. She completed her usual tasks including month end reports, performer contracts, magazines, counting money, receiving books, and purchase requests. Additionally, she has been helping with our summer lunch program.
