I. PROGRAMS
a. Bulk loans of materials were prepared for Adventure Club and Mini Adventure Club.
b. 16 teens met for volunteer training on Friday, June 9th. They learned about basic volunteer
guidelines, summer reading, and picked a 2 hour shift for the summer.
c. We began serving lunches Tuesday through Thursday from 11:15-12:45 on Tuesday, June 13th.
Families are invited to join us for lunch and then stay at the library for programs. We are working
on building the program as the summer continues. This is offered in partnership with Youthprise.
d. Silverwood Park came out on June 13th to help 23 kids make connections between art, nature, and
Pokémon!
e. We kicked off the summer with a party for 140 parents and kids on June 14th. We started with
crafts and then moved on to a dynamic and interactive performance from Leo and Kathy Lara. They
played Latin American music and taught kids about instruments. This program was done in
partnership with the Friends of the Library.
f. 40 teens and tweens came out on June 15th to learn the science behind ice cream and make their
own. Results ranged anywhere from soft serve to soup, but fun was had by all!
g. Teen Advisory Board met on June 19th where 5 members discussed plans for the Storybook Tea and
created an action plan for getting the decorations done.
h. 70 kids and parents joined us on June 20 for Heavy Equipment Encounter Storytime in partnership
with Public Works. We began inside with stories and songs and moved outside to climb and learn
about the equipment.
i. Maker Lab: Mad Science on June 20th brought 28 kids together to learn and experiment about all
things chemistry.
j. Wacky Wednesday kicked off this month with Ten Penny Tunes. 91 kids and parents came out to
learn about all sorts of instruments in a fun interactive way.
k. We had 25 teens at June 22nd’s Escape the Library Program in which they had 45 minutes to solve
the puzzles and break the codes in order to stop a jewel heist from occurring. They solved the
puzzle by working together with 8 minutes left to spare.
l. The MN Blues Society came to the library on June 27 and taught 22 kids how to play the harmonica.
Each child went home with their own harmonica.
m. Wacky Wednesday continued with a science theater performance about the heart and electricity
put on by Bakken Museum. 110 kids and parents enjoyed an interactive performance.
n. Our first Teen Book Club meeting of the summer occurred on June 29th with 3 teens. We talked
about books, got to know one another, and created reviews for library displays. This program is
collaboration with the Teen Advisory Board.

II. COLLECTION
a. Book orders were placed from the following selection tools: SLJ 1/16 and 2/16. Orders were also
placed in the following areas: replacements and adds.
b. Weeding of E and J nonfiction continued this month.
III. PROJECTS
a. Prepared for and promoted June programs.
b. Created TAB agenda.
c. Maintained summer reading program supplies.
d. Maintained and planned early literacy experiences and teen passive programming for summer.
e. Prepared training and projects for volunteens. Trained staff on working with volunteens.
f. Fall program planning.
g. Managed volunteen program.
h. Managed summer food program.
IV. GRANTS, MEETINGS, COMMUNITY
a. 6/7: Attended Community Picnic to share information about summer at the library. Interacted with
upwards of 300 parents and kids.
b. 6/7: Attended Youthprise Summer Reading Food Program training in preparation of our summer
lunch program.
V. STAFF
a. This month the major projects page staff worked on are as follows: selection tools, processing, and
various cutting projects.
b. Kelly Olson worked on book orders. She also assisted in the many bulk loan bins we had this month.
She completed her usual tasks including month end reports, performer contracts, magazines,
counting money, receiving books, and purchase requests. Additionally, she lead a toddler storytime
session for 63 kids and parents and has been helping with our summer lunch program.
