PROGRAMS a. Bulk loans of materials were prepared for Adventure Club. b. Classes from ICS visited on 5/3, 5/5, 5/19, and 5/24. c. Teen Advisory Board (TAB) met on 5/20. One person attended the meeting. They worked on decorations for the teen area this summer. d. We hosted a Somali Dance and Storytelling program in partnership with Columbia Heights ECFE and the Somali Museum of Minnesota made possible by an ACCFC grant. A total of 90 people attended the program and by the end kids and adults were up dancing with the troupe from the museum! e. LEGO Club took place on 5/10. 15 kids and parents built creations out of LEGO bricks. Each participant chose their best piece to display in the display case of the library. f. I visited with K-5 graders in ISD 13, Immaculate Conception, and Global Academy this month to get the word out about summer reading at the library reaching over 2,000 students. g. 65 North Park 2nd Graders came to the library on Thursday, May 11 for stories and library free time. h. 80 Valley View Kindergarteners came to the library on Friday, May 26 to learn about the library, attend storytime, and play in the library. i. COLLECTION a. Book orders were placed from the following selection tools: Kirkus 12/1/16, SLJ 12/16. Orders were also placed in the following areas: replacements and adds , comic books, and board books. b. Weeding of E and J nonfiction continued this month. III. PROJECTS a. Prepared for school visits. b. Created TAB agenda. c. Prepared for summer programming. d. Maintained and planned early literacy experiences and teen passive programming for spring. e. Interviewed volunteens and updated training and program plan. f. Planned summer storytime g. Began planning for fall programming. h. Prepared summer displays and early literacy space i. Trained staff on Bookawocky. IV. GRANTS, MEETINGS, COMMUNITY a. 5/8: Passed out information about summer library programming for teens to 10 families at Columbia Academy event. b. 5/10: Attended Early Literacy Team meeting at Northtown. c. 5/15: Went to Highland Elementary to talk to 640 students about summer reading at the library. d. 5/16 and 5/17: Went to Global Academy to talk to 192 students about summer reading at the library. e. 5/22: Went to Valley View Elementary to talk to 566 students about summer reading at the library. f. 5/25: Went to North Park Elementary to talk to 600 students about summer reading at the library. V. STAFF a. This month the major projects page staff worked on are as follows: selection tools, processing, and various cutting projects. b. Kelly Olson worked on book orders. She also assisted in the many bulk loan bins we had this month. She completed her usual tasks including month end reports, performer contracts, magazines, counting money, receiving books, and purchase requests.
