I. Adult Programs and Displays
a. Sister Cities set up displays of Polish culture and history in recognition of October as
National Polish-American Heritage Month. Staff set up an accompanying display of books,
and other materials about Poland.
b. Monthly book display featured “far-flung fiction.”
c. A meditation workshop, conducted by Arvind Naik, was offered on Wednesday, November
4. Total attendance was 11 adults.
d. Seven “Buddy Up and Read” partners met a total of 19 times to practice their English
language reading and speaking skills. Two sets of partners are new this month.
e. Conversation Circles for adult English language learners met twice a week, on Wednesdays
and Thursdays from 1 to 2 p.m., facilitated by adult library volunteers. Total attendance for
October was 29 adults.
f. Scrabble Club, sponsored by the Friends of the Library, met on October 3 and 17. Total
attendance was 14 adults.
g. Senior Surf for Adults 55+ was held on Wednesday, October 4. Three adults attended the
class, which offered hands-on computer learning with help from representatives of the
Senior Linkage Line and the Metropolitan Area Agency on Aging.
h. The Library Book Club met on Wednesday, October 18, to discuss "Hidden Figures" by
Margot Lee Shetterly. Total attendance was 18 adults.
i. Deliveries were made to At-Home Patrons.
j. Winter program planning was finalized
II. Meetings
a. Cortni attended the Columbia Heights city tour for new employees on Thursday, Oct. 5.
b. Cortni met with the Friends of the Library on Wednesday, Oct. 11, at La Casita.
c. Cortni met with two potential adult volunteers.
III. Projects
a. Copy for the winter edition of Heights Happenings was submitted and finalized.
b. Library study rooms were labeled with adhesive room numbers.
c. Year-end orders were placed for adult audiobooks and adult/juvenile DVD collections.
IV. Other
a. Fifteen adult volunteers donated 64 hours to the library, working with adult English
Language learners, delivering materials to At-Home Patrons, and performing miscellaneous
tasks at the library.
b. Cortni gave a library tour to twelve students from the Adult Basic Education center on
Monday, October 9.
