I. Adult Programs and Displays
a. Five “Buddy Up and Read” partners met a total of 14 times to practice their English
language reading and speaking skills.
b. Conversation Circles for adult English language learners returned to meeting twice a week,
on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., facilitated by adult library
volunteers. Total attendance for the month of September was 26 adults.
c. Senior Surf for Adults 55+ was held on Wednesday, September 6. Five adults attended the
class, which offered hands-on computer learning with help from representatives of the
Senior Linkage Line and the Metropolitan Area Agency on Aging.
d. September book displays included a “Banned Books Week” display and “Learn Something
New.”
e. The Library Book Club met on Wednesday, Sept. 20, to discuss "Commonwealth” by
Ann Patchett. Total attendance was 15 adults.
f. Scrabble Club met twice with a total attendance of 16.
g. Deliveries were made to At-Home Patrons.
h. Winter program planning continued.
II. Meetings
a. Cortni attended the Friends of the Library meeting on September 13.
b. Cortni met with Kathleen Moriarty, director of the COH ABE center, to discuss the
library’s adult education display.
c. Cortni met with Anna Metcalfe, an artist who will provide a tea program for adults this
winter.
d. Cortni met with COH recreation coordinator Delynn Mulligan to discuss a possible Book
Club at the Senior Center.
e. Cortni met with three potential adult volunteers throughout the month.
III. Projects
a. The book sale cart is back, with updated donation guidelines, receipt forms, and signage.
b. Orders were placed for copy paper, office supplies, 2018 calendars and planners,
audiobooks and DVDs.
IV. Outreach/Other
a. Twelve adult volunteers donated over 50 hours to the library, working with adult English
language learners, delivering materials to At-Home Patrons, setting up the display case, and
performing miscellaneous tasks at the library.
b. Cortni gave a library presentation and tour for the ABE class level 2B. 27 adults attended
the tour.
c. Renee, Kelly and Cortni volunteered at the Foundation Spaghetti Dinner on September 13.
d. Cortni attended the Circle Terrace Eat and Greet event with Board Member Steve Smith.
103 children visited the event table to learn more about the library and win a prize.
e. Board Member Steve Smith promoted National Library Card signup month with a speech at
the City Council meeting on September 18.
f. The library marked National Library Card Sign Up month with a coupon for one free DVD
rental to new COH cardholders.
