Adult Programs and Displays a. 4 adults attended Senior Surf, an introductory computer class for seniors, age 55+, on Wednesday, July 5, instructed by a certified trainer from the Minnesota Board on Aging and Metropolitan Area Agency on Aging and assisted by a library volunteer computer tutor. b. Conversation Circles for adult English language learners met twice a week, on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 1 to 2 p.m., facilitated by three adult library volunteers. c. 2 “Buddy Up and Read” partners met a total of 5 times to practice their English language reading and speaking skills. d. Scrabble Club, sponsored by the Friends of the Library, met on March 18. Approximately 6 to 8 “regulars” attend. e. The Library Book Club met on Wednesday, July 19, to discuss “The Lighthouse Road” by Peter Geye. f. Local author J.P. Johnson is scheduled to give an author talk on Saturday, July 29 at 11:00 a.m. g. Four deliveries were made to At-Home Patrons. II. Meetings a. I met with J.P. Johnson on Wednesday, July 12, to discuss his upcoming author talk. b. Renee and I met with two representatives from Springbrook Nature Preserve Thursday, July 20. c. I met with Mary Claire Wahlburg and Fumi Ball, two volunteers with the Conversation Circles program, on Wednesday, July 26. I learned more about the Conversation Circles program and discussed program structure and promotion ideas. III. Projects a. Office and processing supplies were ordered. b. I spoke with the 10 current at-home library patrons to introduce myself, schedule new deliveries, and personally met with 3 at-home patrons in person this month. IV. Other a. I started as Adult Services Librarian on Monday, July 10. b. 7 adult volunteers donated 25 hours to the library, working with adult English Language learners, delivering materials to At-Home Patrons, organizing magazines, creating displays and performing miscellaneous tasks at the library.
