BUILDING MAINTENANCE AND EQUIPMENT A. Peoples Electric repaired a malfunctioning lighting sensor in the History Room and replaced another controller on a ceiling LED fixture. Any additional failures in ceiling LED fixtures will result in replacement of the lot. B. Thanks to the diligence of multiple vendors, the hardware and electronic closers on exterior lobby doors were working correctly and consistently by month end. II. TECHNOLOGY A. Staff and patrons experienced repeated issues with thin clients from April 5-18 with no public computer availability for several hours on April 15 and 17. A consultant was hired to correct the issues and full computer service for the public resumed on April 19. B. Staff continues to experience issues with the functioning of the RFID antennas and receipt printers at the service desk and bookdrop workstations. III. COLLECTION A. Adult print books were selected from the October 15th, November 1st and November 15th issues of Library Journal. Patron requests, replacement copies, bestsellers with April and May publication dates and paperbacks were also ordered. Youth selections were made from the October and November issues of School Library Journal and the December 1st issue of Booklist. Juvenile replacement copies, additions and summer reading books were ordered. B. Weeding in adult fiction and easy nonfiction continued. IV. PROGRAMS A. Scrabble Clubs for adults were held on April 4 and 18. B. A Senior Surf class was held on April 5. C. Author Sue Leaf presented an adult program on wilderness canoeing on April 5. D. An “Escape the Library” program for teens was held on April 5. E. The Library Board met on April 5. F. The MN Center for Book Arts taught a “Build a Book” class for kids on April 7. G. The Friends of the Library held a luncheon meeting offsite on April 12. H. Lego Club was held on April 12. I. Global Academy 6th graders visited the library on April 13 for research assistance. J. The Teen Advisory Board met on April 15. K. The Adult Book Club discussed Amy Tan’s “The Bonesetter’s Daughter” on April 19. L. Early Childhood and Family Education classes visited the library on April 19, 20, and 21. M. Author Chad Lewis spoke on haunted sites in Minnesota on April 25 to an enthusiastic audience of 48. N. A Maker Club for kids was held on April 26. O. Anoka County Extension staff offered 4-H Tech Wizards programs on four Tuesdays. P. Four Toddler Storytimes were held on Monday mornings. Q. Four Family Storytimes were held on Tuesday mornings. R. Four Baby Read, Baby Grow programs were offered in partnership with ISD 13Early Childhood and Family Education staff on Thursday mornings. S. Bulk loans were prepared for Immaculate Conception School classes and Adventure Club. T. Immaculate Conception School classes visited the library. U. Volunteer reading “buddies” met with adults learning English throughout the month. V. Conversation Circles for adults learning to speak English were offered on Wednesdays and Thursdays. W. Adult volunteers donated 37.75 hours to the library this month serving as reading buddies, facilitating conversation circles, greeting attendees and providing hospitality for programs, dusting shelves, and hosting Scrabble Club. V. STAFF A. A retirement celebration for Adult Services Librarian Barb Kondrick was held on April 7. B. The seven highest scoring applicants for the Adult Services Librarian position were interviewed on April 20. Three finalists will be invited to second interviews during the first week of May. C. Clerk Typist 2 Kelly Olson participated in a meeting of the Customer Experience Team of the Anoka County Library on April 12. VI. FOUNDATION A. The Foundation did not meet. VII. MISC A. I met with the management team of the Anoka County Library on April 6 and 13. B. I met with the public services team of the Anoka County Library on April 26. C. I gave a tour to a women’s group from Community United Methodist Church on April 5. VIII.
