I. PROGRAMS
a. Bulk loans of materials were prepared for ICS (1 bin for each of 6 classes) and Mini Adventure Club.
b. A class from ICS visited on 1/11.
c. Teen Advisory Board (TAB) met on 1/21. Three people attended the meeting. We talked about
upcoming programs, discussed what TAB wanted to focus on this year, and started planning for
March Madness.
d. This month, we’re opening the craft room up after Toddler Storytimes. Families are invited to
create, discover, and explore as they participate in a variety of activities that encourage tinkering,
building, crafting, and storytelling.
e. LEGO Club took place on 1/12. 15 kids built creations out of LEGO bricks. Each participant chose
their best piece to display in the children’s department of the library.
f. Maker Club made Thaumatropes this month and learned about creating their own optical illusions.
14 kids experimented with moving images and had a chance to show and tell their creations.
g. Families came to the library to test themselves against world records. 12 parents and kids timed
themselves as they jumped rope, spun coins, and put together a Mr. Potato Head. We had fun
measuring how far we could walk while balancing a book on our heads. I heard many parents say,
“We can do this at home!”
h. The Winter Reading Program, Book Warms, continued this month. We are no longer requiring
registration for this program to reduce barriers to participation. We’ve had many families take
BINGO sheets and we’ve had 42 entries for the Teen reading program.
i. January was another Youth Read Down month. For every 15 minutes youth read at the library, we
take off 1.00 in fines. This year we had 26 youth participate. They read for a total of 48.25 hours
and had 128.88 fines waived.
