Adult Programs and Displays a. Seven adults attended Senior Surf, an introductory computer class for seniors, age 55+, on Wednesday, March 1, instructed by a certified trainer from the Minnesota Board on Aging and Metropolitan Area Agency on Aging and assisted by a library volunteer computer tutor. b. Eighteen adults and three children attended an author talk by Vince Wyckoff on Wednesday, March 15. Comments on the evaluation forms were very positive, including: “This was wonderful! I’ve read his books.” “Personable speaker. His love of writing is evident. Eager to read.” “Very interesting. I like hearing excerpts from an author’s book. Very personable.” “This is a great facility.” c. Twelve adults participated in an Anishinaabe Beadwork class on Tuesday, March 21. The class, paid for with Legacy funding, was taught by Julie Kastigar Boada of the Fond du Lac nation, who also told traditional stories of her people. Comments included: “She was very informative, getting me back to my roots. I loved it!” “Fun. Would like more art events and art classes for adults.” “Julie was so patient and kind. I’ve never done anything like this before.” “Would like other ethnic forms of embellishments, crafts, and hobbies.” d. Conversation Circles for adult English language learners met twice a week, on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 1 to 2 p.m., facilitated by three adult library volunteers. e. Four “Buddy Up and Read” partners met a total of 15 times to practice their English language reading and speaking skills. f. Scrabble Club, sponsored by the Friends of the Library, met twice, on March 7 and 21. Approximately 6 to 8 “regulars” have been coming each time, with occasional “newbies” joining in. g. The Library Book Club met on Wednesday, March 15, to discuss “The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency” by Alexander McCall Smith. h. Deliveries were made to At-Home Patrons. II. Meetings a. Barb met with the Friends of the Library on Wednesday, March 8. III. Projects a. Dvds and program supplies were ordered. b. Weeding began in dvds, audio books and large print. IV. Other a. Thirteen adult volunteers donated 74 1/2 hours to the library, working with adult English Language learners, delivering materials to At-Home Patrons, working as computer tutors, creating displays and performing miscellaneous tasks at the library. b. Summer program planning was in process.
