Brooklyn Park: Waste enclosures much be constructed of architectural masonry or similar materials.
However, existing buildings with enclosures constructed in compliance with the zoning code at the time
they were built are grandfathered as long as the enclosure is well maintained.
Champlin: New structures would be required to match the materials of the principal structure, but for
existing buildings, other materials are acceptable, such as a cedar fence.
Crystal: There are no current requirements in Crystal.
Fridley: All refuse and garbage storage receptacles must be located in the rear or side yard and be
totally screened from view from any public right of way. Screening shall consist of a solid fence or wall
not less than six feet high.
Hopkins: There are no enclosure requirements for existing apartments. For new construction, the
property owner must submit a plan showing the location of the trash container, screening and type of
material for screening of the trash container.
Minneapolis: Refuse and recycling storage containers shall be enclosed on all four sides by screening
compatible with the principal structure. The City has approved cedar fencing as long as it was solid and
not open fencing.
New Brighton: For existing multi - family properties, garbage containers must be kept in an enclosing
structure which conceals them from public view for premises using three or more containers up to and
including the 32 gallon size of vat or box containers. For new multiple housing projects, the zoning code
requires all trash and recycling enclosures to be constructed of sturdy, opaque materials (with trash and
recycling receptacles screened from view) that are in harmony with the architecture and materials of
the main building.
Roseville: For new construction, waste and recycling storage areas shall be enclosed. Enclosure walls
shall be of a block or masonry material and designed to match the building where it is located. Existing
structures are grandfathered.
St. Louis Park: The zoning code requires exterior refuse handling and outside storage areas to be
screened with a six foot wall or privacy fence.
St. Paul: There are no current requirements in St. Paul
