The Teen Advisory Board met on Monday, August 1st to discuss fall programming and plan the Cupcake Wars event. b. Our READ Dog teams came in on Monday, August 1st to give kids a chance to practice their reading skills. c. We had 25 preschoolers and their families attend our STEAM Storytime on Tuesday, August 2nd. We started with a story about water, talked about all the different places you can find water in your life, and ended with experiments. d. On Tuesday, August 2nd we had our last Tinker Space of the summer. 20 kids came to create Artbots. They used their creativity and collaborative spirits as they used toothbrush motors, pool noodles, markers, and other miscellaneous supplies to create a robot that drew. No two bots were alike, and it was an amazing experience to see the kids move through frustration by utilizing problem solving skills in order to become successful. Kids and parents left this program excited about what they accomplished. One mom even said, “I think this is the coolest project we’ve ever done!” e. Our last Wacky Wednesday was on Wednesday, August 3rd. Star Michaelina did a book themed magic show that was enjoyed by 99 kids and parents. f. Fandom Club met on Thursday, August 4th to celebrate Harry Potter and the release of the latest book. We tested our Harry Potter knowledge, talked about our favorite books and movies of the series, and watched fan created Harry Potter videos. g. 4-H Tech Wizards met for the last time of the summer on August 4th as well. At the end of the meeting they voted on what projects they’d like to focus on in the fall. The winning topics were robotics and video game design. h. We celebrated our hard-working Volunteens on Monday, August 8th with cake, pizza, and certificates. Families came and had a chance to connect. Volunteens donated over 280 hours of their time this summer. i. Program counts are as follows: II. COLLECTION a. Book orders were placed from the following selection tools: SLJ 2/16, Kirkus 2/1/16, 2/15/16, and 3/1/16, Booklist 2/1/16,2/15/16, and 3/15/16. Book orders were also placed in the following areas: Music Cds and Replacements/Adds. III. PROJECTS a. Prepared an outreach and promotional plan for Fall programming. b. Created TAB agenda. c. Prepared Fall programs. d. Prepared for ISD 13 and ICS Teacher Orientations. e. Trained summer teen volunteers on individual tasks during their shifts. f. Prepared passive activities in Teen and Children’s spaces for Fall. IV. GRANTS, MEETINGS, COMMUNITY a. 8/16: Met with Jy Xiong, 4-H Tech Wizards program coordinator, to reflect on summer and plan for fall. b. 8/24: Presented library information to new teachers from ISD13. c. 8/25: Attended Multicultural Resource Fair where I interacted with over 260 kids and parents and talked about library resources. d. 8/29: Presented library information to teachers at Immaculate Conception School. e. 8/30: Met with Shannon Melham and Patrick Jones to discuss ACCFE Grant projects. V. STAFF a. This month the major projects page staff worked on are as follows: selection tools, shelving , and helping at the self-checkout. b. Kelly Olson worked on book orders. She completed her usual tasks including month end reports, magazines, counting money, receiving books, and purchase requests. c. Michelle Wermerskirchen worked on fall events guides and entered and compiled final summer reading club statistics. Program Date Children's Program Attend.
