CITY MANAGER'S APPROVAL: MEETING DATE NOVEMBER 7, 2016 CITY OF COLUMBIA HEIGHTS - COUNCIL LETTER ITEM: Hy -Vee Request for Municipal Liquor Store Collocation DEPARTMENT: Community Development CITY MANAGER'S APPROVAL: BY /DATE: Joe Hogeboom, 11/03/16 BY /DATE: BACKGROUND: Hy -Vee, Inc. has requested that the City consider opening a new municipal liquor store adjacent to the proposed new Hy -Vee grocery store to be located at 4300 Central Avenue. Staff has discussed this request, and has concluded recommending to the City Council that the Council not consider expanding municipal liquor operations at this time. At the Council Work Session meeting, staff would like to discuss this request with the City Council in greater detail. ATTACHMENTS: 1. This letter is to request that the City of Columbia Heights consider placing a city liquor store inside the new Hy -Vee location. This space would be approximately 3,000 to 5,000 square feet.
