Childdren’s selecttions were mmade from thhe February and March iissues of Boooklist, Kirkuus ReviewsaandSchool Libraryy Journal.AAdult books on CD weree ordered. EQUALOPPPORTUNITYEMPLOYER I.A appreciation party for teen volunteers and their families was held on 8/8. J.The adult fiction book club discussed Tarashea Nesbit’s “The Wives of Los Alamos” on 8/17. K.Two sessions of 4-H Tech Wizards were held. L.Members of the Friends hosted a Scrabble Club on 8/16. M.Volunteer reading “buddies” met with adults learning English throughout the month. N.Conversation Circles for adults learning to speak English were offered on Thursdays. O.Adult volunteers donated 22 hours to the library. P.The Bookawocky summer reading program ended on 8/20 with 582 registrations. Staff attributes the decline in registrations to the library being closed during June. V.STAFF A.Library staff attended the city employee picnic on 8/10. B.I met with Children’s Librarian Brianna Belanger and Pages Rosa Boda and Jimmy Heryla for their one-year performance evaluations. C.Library staff was trained in advanced features of the copiers on 8/24. D.Adult Services Librarian Barb Kondrick represented the library at the All American City Promotions and Communications steering committee on 8/3. E.Winnie Coyne met with the city team planning the website redesign on 8/31. F.Children’s Librarian Bri Belanger provided a tour and overview of services to new teachers from ISD 13 on 8/24. She also met with teachers at Immaculate Conception School and Global Academy in advance of the new school year. On 8/25 she shared information about library services at the multicultural resource fair at the Blaine Human Service Center. VI.FOUNDATION A.The Foundation met on 8/10 and finalized plans for the September spaghetti dinner fundraiser and to receive an update on progress of the donor recognition wall. VII.MISC A.I met with the City Manager on 8/3 for my annual performance evaluation. B.I met with staff from the Hennepin County Library for a tour of the building and to share experiences about facility construction and reopening. C.I met with Kevin Hansen, construction consultant, general contractor and principle sub- constractors for an update on outstanding punch list items on 8/17. D.I met with the Anoka County Library (ACL) Management Team on 8/18. E.I met with the ACL Public Service Team on 8/24. F.Library staff began reserving spaces based on facility use policy approved by the Board in June. The community meeting room was used multiple times this month, including evening and Sunday afternoon rentals. It was used as polling location for the primary election on 8/9.
