BUILDING MAINTENANCE AND EQUIPMENT A. NSI/Horwitz performed routine preventative maintenance on the heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems on 3/14. B. Squeegee Pro washed the exterior windows on 3/26. II. TECHNOLOGY A. I met with Information Services staff on 3/7 to preview functionality of the thin client technology to be used for staff and public computing in the new library. B. RFID tagging of the library collection began on 3/18. By the end of the month approximately 20,000 items had been tagged. Tagging of adult mysteries, westerns, romance, science fiction/fantasy, and large print were completed and fiction was begun. In picture books, board books, easy readers, and easy non- fiction were tagged. III. COLLECTION A.Print books were ordered weekly. Adult selections were made from the December issues of Booklist, Library Journal and Kirkus Reviews. Adult paperbacks and replacement copies of worn classic titles were also ordered. Numerous large print books were purchased at a substantial discount to build a new opening-day collection. from the September issues of Booklist, Kirkus Reviews and School Library Journal. board books and replacements of popular titles were also ordered. B.Weeding of adult nonfiction was completed in nonfiction sections 395-580. Adult fiction H-R was completed. Adult science fiction and large print nonfiction weeding were completed. Weeding was completed in easy readers, easy and juvenile non-fiction sections. IV. PROGRAMS A. A Senior Surf class for older adults was held on 3/2. B. Read Across America Day was celebrated on 3/2. C. The Library Board met on 3/2. D. The Teen Advisory Board met on 3/7. E. Spring Poetry a writing course, was offered by the Loft Literary Center on 3/8. F. The Friends of the Library met on 3/9. G. LEGO Club was offered on 3/10. H. Members of the Friends hosted a Scrabble Club for adults on 3/15. I. The Adult Non-Fiction Book Club met on 3/16 for discussion of J. The adult Non Fiction Book Club met on 3/18. K. A Minecraft program was held on 3/1. L. Create It @ Your Library for teens was offered on 3/22. [Letter to] [Date] Page 2 M. A mini-catapult building program was taught by MadScience instructors on 3/23. N. A March Madness Book Party for teens was held on the evening of 3/23. O. Four sessions of Toddler Storytime were offered on Monday mornings. P. Five sessions of Preschool Storytime were offered on Tuesday mornings. Q. Four sessions of Make and Take Tuesday crafting were offered on Tuesdays. R. Five sessions of Baby Read/Baby Grow were offered in partnership with ISD 13 Early Childhood and Family Education staff. S. Five classes from Immaculate Conception School visited. T. Bulk loans were prepared for Immaculate Conception School and Mini-Adventure Club. U. Conversation Circles, facilitated by a native English speaker, were offered for language learners throughout the month. V. Buddy Up and Read mentoring sessions for adults learning to read were offered. W. Materials were selected and delivered to At-Home patrons. X. Adult volunteers donated 77 hours of service. Y. Final participant count for the adult Winter Reads program was 164. V. STAFF A. attended an Outreach event at Columbia Academy on 3/3. She also attended the ECFE Community Baby Shower on 3/17. She taught parents early literacy building skills in four separate ECFE classes on 3/30 and 3/31. B. Bri attended a meeting of the Summer Reading Program team of the Anoka County Library on 3/18. C. Library full-time staff and supervisors were trained by 3M/Bibliotheca technicians to use the RFID tagging station on 3/17. D. Library staff toured the new facility on Central Avenue on 3/31. E. Barb Kondrick 3/15. VI. FOUNDATION A. The Library Foundation met on 3/16 to consult with legal counsel by-laws. B. Foundation members volunteered at the Pancake Breakfast at the Lighthouse on 3/18 and will receive proceeds from the event. VII. GRANTS A. On 3/18 Bri Belanger, Kevin Hansen and I met with staff from the Mississippi Watershed Management Organization on fulfillment of community education expectations associated with the grant for storm water management at the new facility. VIII. MISC A. On 3/4 selected staff met with Jenn Straumann and Jason Smalley from Anoka County Library about the usability of the SharePoint intranet site now being used by the county library. Columbia Heights have limited access to the site. B. I met staff from Alexander the Beltmann Group, and All Furniture to request quotes for moving the library collection and office materials. C. I attended the Council work session of 3/7 when information about automated materials handling was presented and the Council meeting of 3/28 when the Council approved the construction budget change order to include the AMH equipment. D. I attended the Friends of the Library meeting and presented a report of progress on the construction project. E. I attended the goal setting update retreat of the city Economic Development Authority on 3/15. F. Fourteen boxes of library discards and unusable donations were shipped to Better World Books this month. [Letter to] [Date] Page 3 G. I visited Coordinated Business Products/Solutions to preview available copiers with city staff on 3/24. H. I met with the Anoka County Library Management Team on 3/2 and 3/31. I. I met with the Anoka County Library Public Services Team on 3/23. I completed 2015 annual report to the State Library (Minnesota Department of Education.) J. IX.
