Tantanella FROM: Renee Dougherty, Library Director Member at Large SUBJECT: February 2016 Operational Report Gary Peterson Council Liaison DATE: February 29, 2016 Renee Dougherty Library Director I.BUILDING MAINTENANCE AND EQUIPMENT A.Orkin monitored for pests and applied treatment as necessary on 2/4. B.NSI/Horwitz performed a combustion test on the boiler on 2/17. C.Fidelity Building Services stripped and waxed resilient flooring rooms on 2/19. II.TECHNOLOGY A.I met with Information Services staff and Kevin Hansen on 2/12 to finalize the budget for computer equipment for the new library. I met with IS staff again on 2/26 to determine desired functionality for printers and copies. III.COLLECTION th A.Print books were ordered weekly. Adult selections were made from the November 15 st issues of Booklist, Library Journal and Kirkus Reviews and the December 1 issue of Kirkus Reviews. Adult paperbacks and fiction with March publication dates were o Replacement copies of worn classic titles were also ordered. made from the August issues of Booklist, Kirkus Reviews and School Library Journal. B.Weeding of adult nonfiction continued in the 300 section. Weeding was completed in adult fiction sections B-G, mystery and western paperbacks. Weeding was completed in juvenile picture books and baby board books. Weeding of juvenile easy readers was begun. IV.PROGRAMS A.The Teen Advisory Board met on 2/1. B.A Senior Surf class for older adults was held on 2/3. C.The Friends of the Library met on 2/3. D.The Library Board met on 2/3. E.LEGO Club was offered on 2/11. F.Members of the Friends hosted a Scrabble Club for adults on 2/16. G.The Adult Non-Fiction Book Club met on 2/17 for discussion of Gray H.The adult Non Fiction Book Club met on 2/19. I.Reference questions were tracked as part of a Metropolitan Library Service Agency (MELSA) area-wide survey from 2/22 2/27. J.Minnesota Book Award finalist Catherine Madison spoke about The War Came K.BookWarms, the winter reading program for youth, concluded. Registrations were received from 80 children and 13 teens. L.Winter Reads, a winter reading program for adults, concluded on 2/29. Total participants will be available in March. M.Four sessions of Toddler Storytime were offered. N.Five sessions of Preschool Storytime were offered. O.Five sessions of Make and Take Tuesday crafting were offered. P.Five sessions of Baby Read/Baby Grow were offered in partnership with Childhood and Family Education staff. Q.Seven classes from Immaculate Conception School visited. R.Bulk loans were prepared for Immaculate Conception School classes. S.Conversation Circles, facilitated by a native English speaker, were offered for language learners throughout the month. T.Fifteen sessions of Buddy Up and Read mentoring for adults learning to read were offered. U.Materials were selected and delivered to At-Home patrons. V.Adult volunteers donated 43 hours of service. V.STAFF A. 2/2. B.Renee Rewitzer attended Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tagging training with Anoka County Library staff on 2/5. C.New Pages Aeris Allen and Karen Yaeger began working on the regular schedule during the week of 2/8. D.Barb Kondrick proctored an exam for an online student of the University of Minnesota- Crookston on 2/12. E. F.Bri Early Literacy Team on 2/17 and Summer Reading Team on 2/19. VI.FOUNDATION A.The Library Foundation met on 2/10. The Foundation voted unanimously to fund the RFID Project up to the amount of $65,000. VII.GRANTS VIII.MISC A.I met with Lucille Windsor and Doug Monson of Bibliotheca, formerly 3M Library Solutions, about RFID on 2/2. B.Bri Belanger and I spoke with Nat Bauer from the State Library to provide feedback about early literacy initiatives in Columbia Heights and on ways the state library could support local library efforts to support early literacy and service to English language learne. C.I attended the 2/8 City Council meeting to answer questions abouRFID implementation project. D.Seven boxes of library discards and unusable donations were shipped to Books on 2/11. E.I met with Judy Soule and Kelly Olson on 2/12 about accepting cr through the Sirsi-Dynix Integrated Library System. F.I attended the bi-weekly construction meeting for the new library on 2/17. G.I attended an orientation to SmARTpass, the new pilot program to distribute arts and cultural admissions through libraries, which was presented by MELSA staff on 2/19. H.I met with the Anoka County Library Management Team on 2/4 and 2/18. I.I met with the Anoka County Library Public Services Team on 2/24. J.Kevin Hansen and I met with representatives from TechLogic about handling equipment for the new library on 2/25. K.I completed the city annual report for 2015.
